The Job:

As a Buyer/Planner – Tooling, you’ll be part of our Industrial Global Supply Chain team working as an on-site employee. You’ll get to:

  • Responsible to plan and purchase AEROSPACE materials and tooling including but not limited to aerospace sheet, plate, bar, rod, wire, and machine parts at the best possible price consistent with quality and MRP requirements, within the assigned area of responsibility.

  • Places purchase orders in MRP for production with approved suppliers.

  • Initiates procurement strategies with suppliers, including blanket PO’s, pricing discounts based on total dollar volume, and supported Kanbans/MinMax programs.

  • Establishes strong relationship with key suppliers through regularly scheduled meetings, teleconferences, or visits.

  • Issues requests for quotations to suppliers on new parts and established parts to get competitive bids and updated pricing and delivery schedules.

  • Review and evaluate alternate materials.

  • Negotiates with suppliers to achieve price reductions and maintains a record of cost reduction achievement.

  • Assists contracting group in resolving issues regarding new materials, new sources and the establishment of sources for new and existing products; identify long term agreement opportunities.

  • Manage supplier on time delivery, prepare supplier performance reports on delivery, cost and quality of products and services.

  • Reviews open order status, incorporating MRP changes (expediting, reducing, increasing, canceling) as they occur.

  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate inventory levels and monitoring planning parameters.

  • Maintain MRP messages weekly, notify suppliers and production planners of all changes.

  • Responsible to advise superior of impending supplier failure to fulfill contractual agreements or any other issue that may delay production, after exhausting all means within degree of delegated authority to solve such issues.

  • Consistent with degree of authority delegated by superior, make decisions relative to selection of aerospace vendors, acceptance of bids, disposition of rejected material, return of rejected material, approval or rework/return material charges and resolution of invoice discrepancies.

  • Works with the receiving department and quality assurance department to resolve POs on suspense for documentation and quality discrepancies.

  • Identify areas of cost reduction, cost savings and cost avoidance and implement to meet company objectives.

  • Sits as liaison between company and suppliers to ensure that suppliers are equipped with needed tools, materials, specifications, drawings, etc., and to obtain solutions to procurement issues.

  • Follow all policies and procedures; initiate changes to existing processes to improve overall effectiveness.

  • Other duties with the work as assigned.

The Person:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution; Business Administration, and experience which has provided both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field.

  • Minimum of 5 years procurement planning experience with 3 of those years being in manufacturing.

  • APICS certification preferred.

  • Enterprise Resource Planning or Material Resource Planning experience is required.

  • Ability to utilize ERP or MRP Software. JDE is a plus.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Demonstrated capability working with Microsoft Office suite of products; extremely proficient in Excel formulas, look-ups and pivot tables. Query capability is a plus.

  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
