Overview: Substitute Teachers fill in for regular teachers during their absence, whether for a single day, short-term periods (a week or a month), or for the entire academic year. Their primary responsibility is to ensure that the lesson plan is followed and that the classroom operates smoothly in the regular teachers absence. Role: This is often an entry-level position for teachers beginning their career in education. Substitute Teachers may work for a few hours per day, on a day-to-day basis, filling in for last-minute or single-day absences (such as when a teacher calls in sick). In some cases, Substitute Teachers take on longer assignments, such as covering for a teacher on parental leave or sabbatical. These roles may involve full-time work with a fixed contract.
