JOB SUMMARY: Simulation Clinic faculty are well versed and experienced in all phases of Restorative Dentistry and have achieved a specific level of expertise in Dental Anatomy, Dental Biomaterials, and Radiographic interpretation of developmental and acquired anomalies of teeth and associated oral structures. Knowledge and expertise in Operative Dentistry, Treatment Planning, Cariology, Esthetics, Adhesive Dentistry, and advanced education in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics with academic experience are essential, a certified Prosthodontist with teaching experience is preferable. Some knowledge/experience with the Problem Based Education Model is desired.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The following are a list of Academic Exercises that may be required as a member of the Simulation Clinic faculty from time to time:

  • Integration of dental anatomy, occlusion, restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, cariology and dental biomaterials, treatment planning and diagnosis, into a comprehensive curriculum, utilizing case based models, evidenced based models, and demonstrations;

  • Incorporation of the Electronic Health Record and associated axiUm modules into the Simulation Clinic Curriculum;

  • Preparation of educational tools (A/V, demonstration models, lectures, lesson plans…etc.);

  • Preparation of Simulation Clinic exercises that parallel Patient Clinic protocol and procedure…by means of case based models;

  • Preparation of demonstrations, lectures, small group discussions, and the selection of suggested and required reading from the Vital Source Bookshelf, and coordinating these educational tools with other members of the group;

  • Prepare examinations and other evaluation tools that will aid in the evaluation of students’ work product and help to identify students that are discovered to be weak in various procedures;

  • Individual input into the student kit and supplies that will be necessary to have on hand on a daily basis in the Simulation Clinic to carry out the educational mission of LECOM - SDM and the Simulation Clinic;

  • Develop competency examinations for the Simulation Clinic that will parallel the Patient Clinic Competency Examinations;

  • Develop a rubric for the Competency Examinations that will parallel that used in the Patient Clinic;

  • Develop individually and then by Team the Simulation Clinic Manual;

  • Attend “Team” meetings approved by SDM that require advancement of your profession;

  • Must be able to take direction and receive assignments from the Assistant Dean of Pre-Clinical Education and/or his/her designee;

  • Develop a “plan” or “flow sheet” that will aid in the smooth transition of our students from the Simulation Clinic to Patient Practice;

  • Serve as a Problem Based Learning Facilitator on as needed basis;

  • Prepare course syllabus in detail, to include, all assignments, readings both for laboratory exercises and discussions (examinations), armamentarium lists for each session, and collate material into a succinct document that will guide the student through the rigorous curriculum;

  • Faculty member will contribute and be responsible for overall student success, including, but not limited to, advising and student outcomes;

  • Faculty member will contribute directly to the Mission of LECOM embodying the essence of Osteopathic Principles and Practices by assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction;

  • Faculty member will participate in scholarly activity so to enrich and broaden the student learning experience;

  • Faculty member will commit to being a representative of LECOM by being actively involved in the community, including, but not limited to, serving on Boards, participating in community fundraisers and overall outreach;

  • Must be available for work during the hours assigned, for student instruction and simulation clinic development; and

  • Accept other duties needed/assigned for the Institution’s needs.

Minimum Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Computer experience in the dental or other related field to allow for axiUm computer program entry;

  • Knowledge of ADA Coding;

  • Compliance with State and Federal Regulations and Safety Protocols, at the clinic level;

  • Knowledge of patient’s privacy (HIPAA);

  • Follow proper OSHA and safety guidelines; Protect equipment (office, dental, facility);

  • Strong communications skills are essential as well as computer literacy (MS Office Suit [i.e. Word, PowerPoint and Excel]) and accurate data entry skills;

  • Excellent organizational skills;

  • Must be accurate and attentive to detail;

  • Must be trained and certified on the Institutional Data System;

  • Must have great skills in diagnosis and treatment planning in general dentistry;

  • Maintaining an established work schedule;

  • Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy;

  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills, including attention to detail and follow-through;

  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands;

  • Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials;

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships;

  • Be able to be flexible to accept other duties needed/assigned for the clinic needs;

  • The ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others, consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect and EEO rules and regulations;

  • The ability to report to work as scheduled, ready to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM; and

  • The ability to accept work directives from managers and supervisors in a respectful and cooperative manner.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and experience equivalent to: a general dentist with a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree required. Prosthodontist teaching experience in dental academia with five (5) years’ or more of experience practicing general dentistry preferred. Advance training (i.e. GPR, AEGD) a plus.
