General Statement
The Director of Athletic Equipment Operations manages the Athletics Equipment Room and Laundry Facility in a safe, secure, and effective manner. The Director of Athletic Equipment Operations is under the general supervision of the Deputy Athletic Director – External Relations and is responsible for the overall equipment operation for 15 NCAA Division I varsity sports.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop policies and procedures for the Equipment Room and Laundry Facility and implement them.
Develop the budget for the Equipment Room, to include salaries of assistant(s) and purchases of equipment, uniforms, and supplies. Budget will include all equipment and gear for each sport and will be kept by sport by item. Monitor budget daily to ensure staying within the budget.
Maintain a data base for each item of sports equipment issued, (athletic practice and competition gear) tracking its issuance, return, and condition by computer. Maintain inventory of athletic gear by item by sport on the data base, including new equipment and uniforms received.
Work closely with student-athletes to issue, replace, refurbish and repair equipment while maintaining a professional and friendly atmosphere with all student-athletes and staff.
Provide proper fitting of athletic gear for the protection of athletes, in keeping with the NOCSAE and reconditioning standards.
Hire, supervise, determine work schedules, train, evaluate, discipline, and terminate assistants to effectively meet the needs of the equipment room in support of all of MSU’s athletic programs.
Coordinate the preparation of campus facilities for practices and home competitive events, including transportation of equipment to competitive sites and setting up and trouble-shooting press box-to-sideline communications systems for home Football games.
Coordinate the transportation of athletic equipment and gear to away events. This duty involves traveling with the Football team to away games, coordinating with transportation company of football equipment and coordinating equipment issues relative to practice at away sites.
Comply with all Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, Montana State University-Bozeman, Big Sky Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations, as well as appropriate Title IX regulations.
Perform all other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Deputy Athletic Director – External Relations or the Director of Athletics.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Demonstrated experience as a collegiate athletic equipment manager.
Experience fitting athletic equipment to athletes while maintaining compliance with rules for sports equipment.
Demonstrated supervisory experience.
Demonstrated budgetary experience, including fiscal integrity with respect to budgets.
Must have a thorough knowledge of the principles of inventory control/accountability, budget preparation, purchasing/receiving and maintenance of equipment.
Current AEMA certification.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrated experience developing inventory reports in order to provide departmental administrators, and coaches updates on the status of equipment room inventory and operations.
Working knowledge of and commitment to NCAA regulations and trademark regulations to monitor all equipment and apparel ordered to ensure correct usage of college and commercial trademarks, colors and logos.
Demonstrated experience working in a co-educational environment.
Demonstrated competence using various computer equipment and software programs.

Ability to work closely with student-athletes, athletic administrators and coaches to maintain the successful operation of the department.
Be customer-service driven to treat MSU student-athletes and staff with courtesy and respect.
Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
This position requires occasional national travel for trade shows and district/national meetings.
Must possess currently or be eligible to obtain a valid State of Montana Driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points).

Physical Demands
Extended periods of time working in all weather conditions.
