Under general supervision of the Departmental Manager, the HVAC Technician 2 performs skilled work at the journeyman trade level in the maintenance and repair of refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, and air handling equipment.
Performs installation, maintenance and repair for all University heating, air conditioning, and refrigerating systems to include the following:
Testing electrical circuits or components for continuity, using electrical test equipment.
Testing pipe or tubing joints or connections for leaks.
Installs/repairs control valves, motors, actuators, and associated air handler equipment.
Troubleshoots and dismantles malfunctioning system components using electrical, mechanical and pneumatic testing equipment.
Repairs and replaces defective equipment, components or wiring.
Installs, connects and adjusts thermostats, humidistats and timers.
Inspects and tests systems to verify system compliance with plans and specifications or to detect and locate malfunctions.
Adjusts valves according to specifications and charges systems with proper type of refrigerant.
Braze or solder parts to repair defective joints and leaks.
Perform mechanical overhauls and refrigerant reclaiming.
Maintains campus air handling equipment, chillers and ice machines.
Assists activities in different shop areas and with external contractors as directed.
Responsible for proper care and upkeep of all equipment used in the course of completing assigned tasks including tools, machinery, and vehicles.
Participates in the emergency call-in rotation as assigned.
Available for overtime and mandatory events as required.
High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
At least two years of experience in commercial HVAC service and repair.
Successful completion of a 1-2 year program of instruction for refrigeration and air conditioning at an accredited vocational/technical school.
Current KY Journeyman HVAC license.
EPA Universal Refrigerant License.
Completion of annual CEU requirements.
Good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills required.
Basic computer skills to access/send emails and perform data entry into the maintenance work order system.
Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky driver's license.
Salary Grade: 106 Salary Range: $19.00 - $22.28/hr
