Job Summary

The Division of Public Safety (DPS) with the University of Colorado (CU Boulder) is seeking an experienced, relational, and highly skilled Senior Executive Advisor to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Public Safety ! This position will report directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for the Division of Public Safety (AVCDPS) and is responsible for managing the operations of the AVCDPS's Office and will act as a confidante, thought-partner and strategic advisor to the AVCDPS. The Senior Executive Advisor will supervise professional staff and will be required to exercise good judgment and independent initiative when dealing with issues, especially those which require discretion and confidentiality.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Strategic Advisor

  • Serve as proxy in AVCDPSs absence.

  • Advise the AVCDPS and the leadership of the Division of Public Safety (DPS) Team, which includes University of Colorado Police Department (CUPD); Finance & Administration; Office of the AVCDPS, Operations; and Public Safety Technology.

  • Act as a thought-partner to AVCDPS to help establish strategic priorities. Serves as a knowledgeable and trusted intermediary.

  • Serve as a liaison between the Office of the AVCDPS and campus team members on matters of campus-wide concern and compliance.

  • Analyze activities to ensure that the DPS team is focused upon activities that advance the unit's mission, vision, and values.

  • Informally mediate disagreements between DPS team members and elevate issues for resolution when needed.

  • Build strong relationships with DPS team members and external constituents to ensure opportunities are identified and initiatives are successfully implemented.

  • Ensure effective coordination of and communication with the CU System and the CU Board of Regents in support of the AVCDPS, COO and Chancellor.

  • Collaborate regularly and closely with Office of the Provosts Academic Resource Management team, Office of the Chancellor, members of the Strategic Resources and Support team and their senior staff to ensure alignment across campus executives, with a particular emphasis on DPS/Academic Affairs alignment.

  • In coordination with the AVCDPS, continually assess and explore the evolution of the AVCDPS role.

Strategy, Planning, and Execution

  • Serve on task forces and committees on the AVCDPSs behalf.

  • Supervise the execution of central initiatives and ensures their alignment with campus mission, vision, and goals. Identifies metrics for success and drives progress toward those metrics.

  • Find opportunities for communicating about these initiatives and progress toward them, both internally and externally.

  • Collaborate with the DPS Director of Communications and Strategic Relations and Communications to manage internal and external communications including newsletters, speeches, branding materials and presentations.

  • Work with the threat assessment staff to contribute to the needs of those processes, committees, training, and education.

  • Create efficient workflows and implements clear channels of communication. Prepares and edits reports, communications, and proposals.

  • Notify department employees of day-to-day operational, and strategic issues.

  • Serve on committees and perform representational functions on strategically important initiatives.

  • Lead special projects and initiatives brought forward by the AVCDPS.

Supervision

  • Supervision of assigned employees including management and oversight of work performance.

  • Assist Executive Assistant with meeting preparation and planning.

What You Should Know

  • The anticipate schedule for this shift is 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday-Friday, as needed for emergencies.

  • This position is a designated Campus Security Authority.

  • This position may operate University vehicles and requires an active Driver's License.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $116,500 - $140,000 annually.

What We Require

  • Bachelors degree in sociology, public safety field, education or another related field.

  • At least 6 years of professional job related experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of operations, policies, and procedures.

  • Experience working within a higher education environment.

  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams.

  • Proficient in supporting Zoom and/or Teams virtual meetings.
