Job Title: Overnight Veterinary Technician (ER/ICU) Job Statu s: Full-time
Pay Scale: $25-$40/hr based on experience. Must be RVT/CVT/LVT or have your PVT in the state of Colorado. Shift differential - $4.50/hr weekend, $3.50/hr weeknight.
Schedule: 1 open position 8pm-8am Wed/Thurs/Fri
Job Purpose : Our Emergency Room/ICU Technicians are responsible for the care and treatment of unstable/critically ill patients, triaging emergency patients, and monitoring hospitalized pets. They operate under the supervision of various specialists, the staff manager, emergency doctor, and department shift leads. This is an overview of the position and is not limited to the duties listed below.
Major Duties
Triage phone calls, and walk-ins, when necessary. Reviewing medical records as necessary to assist in those triages
Perform appropriate patient restraint for examinations and procedures
Understand many illnesses and the appropriate treatment
Acquire, prepare, and ship laboratory specimens along with running automated CBCs, preparation of blood films to perform manual differentials and platelet counts, running various chemistries, Coag tests, and collect, evaluate, and report urinalysis results.
General nursing care such as: accurately obtaining and assessing patient vitals (temperatures, pulses/heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, pain score, etc.), auscultation of the lungs, prepare and administer nutrition
General Reception duties such as: check clients in/out, clean lobby/exam rooms as needed, collect deposits/payments...
Perform general venipuncture, peripheral/central/arterial catheter placement and maintenance
Perform emergency procedures including but not limited to establish and maintain airway, oxygen administration including but not limited to minimally invasive (O2 cage, nasal-nasotracheal oxygen and high flow nasal oxygen) to invasive (ie mechanical ventilation, resuscitation with blood products, administration of pharmacological agents including CRI’s, under veterinary supervision
Induction, surgical skin preparation, monitor and recovery of surgical patients for minor surgical procedures (ie. Chest tube placement, peritoneal drain, etc.)
Admitting and discharging patients, client communication and education, answering phone calls and scheduling appointments
Cleaning, stocking, general organization, and maintenance of ICU/Isolation equipment and supplies
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of basic veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology with an interest in pursuit of further education equaling Certified/Licensed Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Technician Specialist (ACVECCT-VTS) status.
Ability to appropriately handle, lift and restrain animals (dogs, cats) and stand for long periods of time.
Ability to perform veterinary medical procedures (i.e., administer CPR, draw blood, administer medications and fluids, and assess and triage patients.)
Ability to communicate well with other technicians and doctors regarding the needs of the patients
Required: Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Provisional Veterinary Technician (PVT-will be considered based on experience). Two years of recent experience in ER/CC is preferred.
Ability to communicate well with other CASE staff members.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and with little or no supervision
Ability to multi-task and produce quality work while making effective decisions
On-Call: Required once fully trained - One shift every 4 weeks
