Program Overview The US Programworks to accelerate the US transitionto aclimate-alignedfuture.TheUSProgramcollaborativelydevelopsRMI's overall US strategyby establishing clear priorities whileworking tointegrate,elevate,andfill gaps amongUS-focused work across RMI's programs.The US Programworkswith government, industry, and civil societyacrossalleconomicsectorstoaccelerate US decarbonization.Within the US Program, four teams work jointly to impact change at the federal, regional, state, and local levels. Combined, our program harnesses technical analysis, outreach, informed advocacy, and communications to secure bold policies and achieve our climate goals.

Position Overview: Methane is the "now" climate pollutant. Atmospheric concentration of methane is at an all-time high, with an unprecedented rate of increase. Methane is responsible for 30 percent of global warming to date and the US oil and gas sector is a key driver. Existing federal policy is insufficient for reducing methane at the speed and scale needed. Now, we have an opportunity to take major action on methane by fully measuring emissions, securing strong state-level policies, and activating key market actors. Combined, these efforts can benefit our planet, consumers, and our national security.

RMI is seekinga Senior Associateto play a leading rolein developing and executing a strategy to secure strong federal and state policies to reduce methane emissions from the U.S. oil and gas sector.

As a Senior Associate, you are an independent, creative problem solver that takes initiative to apply your quantitative, technical, and analytical abilities to translate research into action campaigns and technical assistance. You will collaborate with team members to craft visionary yet practical solutions for a wide range of U.S. non-federal leaders.We expect self-motivation, curiosity, creativity, the ability to drive oneself and others toward meaningful results, a passion for the clean energy transition, and interest in subnational work.

As an RMI Senior Associate, you will be an independent contributor and work closely with colleagues on projects under the direction of more senior staff. You will develop expertise in the content area of your specific program within RMI and can provide support internal to RMI on that topic.

Key Responsibilities

With senior guidance, develop and executea strategy to reduce methane emissions from the U.S. oil and gas sector by securing strong federal and state policies. Determine change models, intervention points and tactics, timelines, resource plans, communications plans, and stakeholder engagement. Work with diverse partners to structure, organize, and execute identified strategies. Resolve any issues throughout the project life cycle.

Determine how results will be measured and be accountablefor project results, rigorously and respectfully challenging findings from RMI teams and partners.

Lead and support stakeholder engagementacross a diverse set of public sector, private sector, civil society, and non-profit stakeholders. This could include convening and facilitating workshops for cross-sectoral participants, providing hands-on support to policy akers, and engaging in-state organizations to support ambitious policy outcomes.

Develop analysis-driven, actionable technical assistance productssuch as guidance, checklists, tools, case studies, webinars, and model language to support accelerated non-federal climate action in collaboration with our analytics team.

Regularly contribute to external interviews, videos, and publicationsto share project insights and publicly represent RMI.

Support senior staff and the development teamwith managing funder relationships and additional fundraising to raise resources.

Minimum Qualifications

5+ yearsofprofessional workexperience

Experience structuring, organizing, and executing project work

Experience supporting external stakeholder engagement

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Highly collaborative, strong team player
