The Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology (MCDB) (https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=5633354&targetURL=https://www.colorado.edu/mcdb/) department at CU Boulder is encouraging applicants for the Manager of Building Operations position! The Manager of Building Operations provides leadership for the physical upkeep of the MCDB Department consisting of two buildings, GOLD and PORT, comprising 200,000 SF of research lab, office, and support space. The Manager of Building Operations represents the Department to internal and external constituents on issues related to construction, renovation, repair, and upkeep of these buildings and is available on call after-hours to help route building emergencies.

This position will be the Department's general Facilities Manager, responsible for leading and, when applicable, working with the College of Arts and Sciences Infrastructure (CASI) Department to perform Project Management, Facilities Management, and Property Management.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Department Project Manager

  • Assess the Department's space needs and develop working space plans for internal review.

  • Coordinate with CASI and Facilities Management for project cost analysis, and review/modify with Department end user.

  • Coordinate projects as the departmental "Owner Rep" with the Facilities Management Project Manager, Architect, Engineers, Contractors, Facilities Operations, EHS, IT, as well as Departmental end user.

  • Ensure the projects are completed on time and within budget and meet all end-user needs and safety requirements.

  • Participate in the Department Space Committee

  • Coordinate funding and construction activities with the College of Arts & Sciences, Infrastructure (CASI) Department.

  • Manages concerns, changes, and emergencies related to ongoing projects that may impact Department end users.

  • Responsible for communicating end-user needs for projects and ensuring that the Facilities Project Manager is responding and correcting as necessary.

  • Acts as telecom liaison to address construction/remodel based voice data design/orders.

Facilities Manager

  • Assist with design and construction activities to minimize impact on laboratory spaces/research.

  • Coordinate work schedule, utility and equipment shutdowns with Departmental occupants and Facilities Management.

  • Represent department in EH&S compliance.

  • Periodically evaluates buildings and assigned space for problems, issues, and areas for improvement.

  • Works in conjunction with Building Proctor (if separate from Building Manager) and CU Custodial staff to ensure that all areas of the buildings are being properly cleaned and that appropriate services are being provided, including scheduling CU Custodial projects such as lab floor work.

  • Manages any facility-related emergencies that arise, i.e. chemical spills, fires, floods, etc. in coordination with appropriate agencies and campus departments.

  • Calls in Service Requests (SR) to Facilities Management when a standard building operation issue is observed and then tracks this and all building SRs through to completion.

  • Assists with emergency weather preparedness and building management to help avoid capital losses to infrastructure and research.

Property Manager

  • Repair and upkeep of departmental common equipment.

  • Act as Property Manager for departmental equipment.

  • Assist MCDB Building Proctor (if separate from Building Manager) on day-to-day maintenance issues.

  • Supervise glassware washing facility.

  • Move-in/move-out management

  • Respond to and handle basic IT issues in the interactive classrooms

  • Work with CASI to manage department space usage per A&S guidelines and notify CASI when there are space needs or opportunities.

What You Should Know

This position offers regular working hours but must be available for on-call building emergencies.

Starting salary for this position is $74,880 annually.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

  • At least 3+ years of professional, job-related experience.
