BAE Systems Engineer Senior ESTE Systems Engineer in Boulder, Colorado

Identify, cost, propose, develop, document, catalog, and maintain non-flight Electrical Special Test Equipment such as test cables, electrical racks, TVAC feedthrough hardware, and other board, box, instrument, and system level test sets. Draw cable interconnect diagrams; thermal vacuum plates and manage interface control documents. Develop software and certification procedures for electrical test sets. New business proposal support.

What You ll Do:

  • Represent ESTE on new business efforts to properly scope ESTE for proposed programs.

  • Forecast engineering and material costs for new business proposals.

  • Develop and lead design reviews for new ESTE systems.

  • Review, understand and help derive requirements for the ESTE which is being designed.

  • Assist in the management of engineering task creation and tracking.

  • Assist in the management of general design practices for the ESTE & TS&CM organization.

  • Establish and maintain reuse standards of common electrical test equipment.

  • Network with co-workers in order to understand the expertise of colleagues who can provide consultation for problem solving.

  • Learn to leverage heritage designs in order to save schedule and cost when appropriate.

  • Develop 2D CAD models of electronics designs and generate Cable designs, schematics, wirelists and detailed and assembly drawings.

  • Develop bill of materials product structures and identify and manage long lead procurements.

  • Specify connector pinouts and mil-standard part numbers in interface control documents (ICDs).

  • Work with production planners and assembly technicians to resolve issues during fabrication cycle.

  • Report status of tasks being worked and learn how to overcome obstacles that are preventing progress.

  • Assist in development of software to control test equipment.

  • Design and execute test procedures on electrical test equipment.

  • Perform thermal, failure mode, and transient analysis documents for ESTE systems.

  • Write user manuals for ESTE systems.

  • Help maintain ESTE catalog of equipment and reservation system.

  • Create and implement information assurance plans to document the reuse of electrical systems on classified programs.

  • Assist and mentor junior engineers.

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.

  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.

  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.

  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

  • Proficiency in two or more of the following CAD tools:

  • Draftsight

  • Solidworks

  • AutoCAD

  • Labview

  • COSMOS/Open C3

  • Powerpoint

  • BAE Systems Agile/ IFS/Velocity

  • Solid communicative skills and the ability to exercise them in a technical environment.

  • Excellent hands-on design and troubleshooting ability.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Solid working knowledge of military specifications and standards.

  • Skilled in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5M.

  • Spacecraft cable and wire harness design experience.

  • Full lifecycle (design, manufacturing, & test procedure) development

  • LabVIEW programming familiarity.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $137500 - $173500

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
