Facilities Management at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Director of Strategic Initiatives! This position supports the work and activities of the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) and is a senior support role, with multi-function responsibilities for project management, communications, research, and other general support. The Director will possess high-level management skills, along with strategic insight and the proven ability to lead the implementation of organizational critical initiatives and support high visibility special projects as an owner's representative. This role provides support to the operations and programs of the AVC's office and may provide supervision. The position also acts as a strategic coordinator for the AVC on all issues pertaining to the mission and goals of the division. This role will be a representative for campus and partner groups involved in special interest or high visibility design and construction projects and liaises with internal and external constituents and campus leadership. The role serves on the FM leadership team and works toward the strategic vision and its implementation for the division. This role exercises a high level of professional judgment and initiative in dealing with varied issues, especially those that require discretion and confidentiality.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Strategic Project and Program Management

  • Scope, plan, and implement often quick-turnaround projects and/or initiatives with little outside assistance. Review, develop, and implement policy and procedures.

  • Coordinate the execution of AVC and FM central initiatives and ensure their alignment with Infrastructure & Resilience (I&R) and campus mission, vision, and goals. Identify metrics for success and drive progress toward those metrics.

  • Find opportunities for communicating about these initiatives and progress toward them, both internally and externally.

  • Serve on committees and perform representational functions on strategically important initiatives.

  • Provide support, coordination and facilitate process improvement efforts to the campus capital project governance program.

  • Lead special projects and initiatives brought forward by the AVC and serve on task forces and committees on the AVC's behalf.

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships on behalf of the AVC.

  • Maintain an inventory of projects being completed across the AVC's areas of responsibilities.

  • Independently work with the AVC's staff to ensure appropriate execution of initiatives and decisions.

  • Monitor the progress of critical initiatives, discuss project achievements with the AVC's employees and other project leaders, and analyze next steps toward completion.

  • Synthesize project activities, progress, obstacles, and achievements into high-level reports. Provide regular briefings on the project portfolio.

  • Act as a point of coordination on behalf of the AVC to ensure momentum is maintained once projects are initiated.

Research, Communication and Information Disseminations

  • Independently gather information and perform research on matters coming to the AVC for resolution, including confidential and sensitive material.

  • Research issues and policies and summarize findings.

  • Perform fact checking and verification of details in support of executive communications.

  • Develop lists of contact information for potential future collaborations.

  • Maintain an awareness of key issues and topics in media outlets, and forward as appropriate to AVC employees and additional interested parties (news articles, speeches, panel discussions, etc.).

  • Prepare follow-up correspondence for internal and external meetings.

  • Prepare and edit reports, presentations and proposals. Work with subject matter experts as appropriate. Edit in conjunction with AVC. Reports and submissions include documentation going to the CU Board of Regents, CU System, Office of the State Architect and the State Capital Development Committee, including capital program project information submissions and campus, asset management documentation.

  • Help keep all AVC staff and other key managers informed of daily operational and strategic issues.

Support for Events and Meetings

  • Brief and prepare the AVC in advance of select calendared meetings and events.

  • Ensure strategic meeting and events are well planned toward improving the AVC's and organization's effectiveness. Performed in coordination with the AVC's office scheduling or administrative assistant.

  • Ensure meeting participants are appropriately prepared for meetings with the AVC.

  • Provide follow-up with meeting participants on behalf of the AVC.

  • Assist the AVC in outreach activities; coordinate with other support staff, directors, project managers, etc.

Supervision

  • Supervise other AVC support staff when needed.

What You Should Know

This position will begin as a primarily in person position, and has an anticipated work schedule of Monday - Friday during regular business hours.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $105,000 - $114,400 annually.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, planning, construction management, business administration or related field. Experience similar to requirements noted above may substitute for education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Five years experience working with clients/users on design/construction projects, including experience working with client/users on large/complex capital construction projects.

  • Five years of serving in leadership roles on a team.

  • Experience working in a customer-focused environment, with multiple customers and collaborators.

  • Strong administrative writing, reporting, presenting and social skills.

  • High tolerance for change; the ability and willingness to work in a constantly evolving and fast-paced environment to solve complex organizational concerns.

  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities, initiatives and projects.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Demonstrated track record of communicating effectively and forming relationships at all levels of an organization.

  • Proven ability to facilitate reaching resolution between multiple constituents with competing project interests.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Google products, Adobe Suite Proficiency in supporting Zoom and/or Teams virtual meetings.
