The Boston University School of Public Health is looking for a Research Manager. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a large NIH-funded study in Central America. The BU SPH Department of Environmental Health has an active, NIH-funded research program in Nicaragua and El Salvador focused on the epidemic of chronic kidney disease of non-traditional origin in this region. This position will provide key operational and logistical management of a large cohort study of youth in Nicaragua.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day study operations, logistics and preparations. These activities include development of study protocols and documentation, development and support of data management and transfer systems and purchasing and shipment planning and accounting. These activities will occur in close collaboration with Nicaragua-based field staff and the PI at Boston University.

  • Maintain study budgets and financial arrangements, including supporting subaward recipients and vendors as needed to develop and maintain records, invoices and billing. Report to the PI on a regular basis the status of study budgets.

  • Manage data generated from the study and engage in data analysis. This position will establish and maintain the central study database with questionnaire and biospecimen data and lead analyses appropriate for an MPH level skillset.

  • Oversee study repository specimen freezer storage at Boston University. This position will lead an inventory of specimens in the study freezer, develop a freezer map, maintain records of specimens sent for analysis, and manage shipments to and from the laboratory.

  • Train and oversee undergraduate work study and graduate student Research Assistants at Boston University. This position will supervise 1-3 students engaged in administrative tasks in support of the study, including freezer specimen inventory, invoice reporting, and shipments.

  • Support new grant proposals, NIH-required study reports and research manuscripts. This position will prepare NIH performance reports and support budget, protocol, and supporting documentation for new grant proposals.

Required Skills

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with 3 - 5 years of experience.

  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to handle the demands of a fast-paced, multi-faceted, changing environment
