Optum combines data, technology, and expertise to power modern health care. The Data & Advanced Analytic Tools Consulting team drives the adoption and use of Optum’s data assets and technology solutions in the Life Sciences industry.
Optum's industry-leading data assets include clinically-robust Electronic Health Record (EHR) data spanning the care continuum (from the legacy Humedica business), eligibility-controlled affiliate and non-affiliate insurance claims data, a new class of deterministically-linked Integrated EHR and claims data, and linked profile data including socio-economic information and health risk assessments (HRAs). Optum’s data assets enable our clients to enrich their view of the patient and the patient journey through the healthcare system, serving needs across a spectrum of functional areas including real world evidence, health economics and outcomes research, safety and surveillance, epidemiology, and product commercialization.

This consulting team manages, grows, and develops relationships with research, scientific, and commercial leaders at life sciences companies through the use of Optum’s data assets and technology applications.
We’re now looking for a dynamic Senior Consultant to support Data & Advanced Analytic Tools, working closely with our clients across the industry.
The Senior Consultant is expected to support the Director and Commercial Analytics Leads, serving as the primary point of contact for a collection of clients, including providing on-site analytic support services. The Senior Consultant should become an expert in the contents and uses of Optum Life Sciences' data assets. Success in this role requires: (a) the ability to engage and educate clients and prospects about the assets and capabilities of Optum Life Sciences; (b) creativity to identify and frame specific, even novel, responses to the client's request; (c) comfort leading cross-functional projects inside a matrix and geographically dispersed organization; and (d) collaboration with sales professionals and other Optum colleagues who may be pursuing or serving the same companies.

Support and develop client relationships: listen, understand, and articulate client needs
Expect 50% pre-sales account support, 50% strategic, consultative support for data and tools
Serve as a subject matter expert on data and analytics to support data, business intelligence applications, and commercial analytics solutions
Solve unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business
Develop case studies, business proposals and reports, presentation development and delivery
Partner with internal team members on cross functional client engagements
Participate in the development of business strategy
Predict emerging client analytics needs and participate in the development of innovative solutions to meet those needs
Interact with other departments, such as sales, operations and client services, to ensure a high level of client satisfaction through successful execution of projects and use of applications and data
Work closely with Product Development and other entities within the Optum family of companies to support product improvements and new product offerings
Provide thought leadership on new ideas and interface with clients to obtain feedback

Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of professional experience (or graduate degree with at least 3 years),
3+ years of experience supporting client engagements or large projects for internal/external customers, preferably in the life sciences industry.
2 + year experience with patient-level healthcare data (claims, EHR, pharma,etc.) to support internal and external client
Experience presenting to a variety of stakeholders thru various media
Experience working across clients and supporting other team members in fulfillment of data and advanced analytics responsibilities
Solid understanding of Powerpoint and Excel (Powerpoint – must be able to create and modify PPT’s) (EXCEL – must be able to create spreadsheet, pivot tables, linking cells with little to no supervision)
Travel required – up to 30% (normally a day or two of overnight travel)
If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. Advanced degree (MBA, MS, PhD, PharmD)
Degree in the life sciences industry, healthcare field, or management consulting
Experience developing new business and identifying add-on work
Location: Available location for this role is telecommute, but preference will be given for those within the Boston, MA – must be within 1 hour of major airport

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $94,500 to $171,700.
