Pharmacy Student
Job Description:
Job Summary: The Pharmacy student is under the general supervision of a Clinical Pharmacist while working. He/she is under the specific supervision of the Pharmacy Supervisors and Clinical Pharmacist Supervisors for the technical functions in the operation of the Department of Pharmacy. The primary responsibility in accordance to established policies and procedures is to prepare and distribute medications and IV solutions.
Essential Responsibilities:
Develops familiarity with medications: generic and trade names, methods of administration, usual dosages, usual dosage schedules and conversion between metric and apothecary systems. Distributes automated dispensing cabinetry with appropriate dosage forms and monitors discharge and transfer lists and removes and transfers bins appropriately. Delivers medications along with appropriate labels.
Repackages tablets, capsules and liquid medication, operate re-packaging machine and assigns expiration dates as per policy. Handles and distributes controlled substances and investigational drugs. Prepares topical and irrigation solutions.
Restocks floor stock/automated dispensing cabinetry. Checks for expired medications in the pharmacy and in the automated dispensing cabinetry. Inventories and maintains stock levels in the unit dose area and the satellites.
Charges and credits medications appropriately in the computer system.
Prepares and initiates worklist and labels and assembles drugs and solutions to be compounded. Initiates procedure and demonstrates aseptic technique in compounding of parenteral admixtures in laminar flow hood.
Refills OR kits. Prepares through aseptic technique OR related items, cardioplegia solutions and syringes. Maintains stock in the OR pharmacy. Completes all OR related charging/documentation
Demonstrates an excellent proficiency in intravenous medication preparation. Prepares both oral and intravenous medications for the use by patients in the clinic. Assists the pharmacist in the preparation of chemotherapeutic agents for patients in the clinic. Aides the pharmacist in the preparation of investigational medications in the clinic. Completes all oncology related charging/documentation.
Required Qualifications:
Vocational or Technical training required.
Registration Pharmacy Student Intern required.
0-1 years related work experience required.
Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Enrolled in an accredited pharmacy degree program and have completed year 2.

Independence of Action: Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.
Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
Customer Service: Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.
Physical Nature of the Job:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
