State of Massachusetts Environmental Justice Intern in Boston, Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game works to preserve the state's natural resources and people's right to conservation of those resources, as protected by Article 97 of the Massachusetts Constitution. To carry out this mission, the Department exercises responsibility over the Commonwealth's marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife species, plants, and natural communities, as well as the habitats that support them. These documents must be specifically attached to the requisition for which you are applying.* _Brief Description of Internship Position_: The Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game (DFG) works to preserve the state's natural resources. We exercise responsibility over the Commonwealth's marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife species, plants, and natural communities, as well as the habitats that support them. DFG is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve in a full-time summer internship working under the direction of the DFG’s Environmental Justice Liaison to support the development and implementation of the agency’s first Environmental Justice Strategic Plan. __ _Description of Duties and Responsibilities_: The Environmental Justice Summer Intern will work with DFG’s Environmental Justice and Communications teams to support their collaboration with the agency’s internal Marine Fisheries, MassWildlife, Office of Fishing and Boating Access and Ecological Restoration Divisions to establish the agency’s internal EJ team, research and assess the capacity of existing programs to accomplish EJ goals outlined in DFG’s 2024 EJ Strategic Plan, and conduct research of ArcGIS mapping tools and protocols to better reflect EJ program expansion opportunities. The intern will also conduct outreach and compile information in support of the formation of a comprehensive Public Involvement and Community Engagement catalog of EJ communities, organizations and leaders, which will be supplemented with contacts from the Commonwealth’s state acknowledged or federally recognized Tribes. There will be opportunities for site visits. _Preferred Knowledge and Skills_: · Analytical and critical thinking skills · Open-mindedness, cultural competence and adaptive communication skills · Studies in Environmental Sciences, Geography, Computer Science, Environmental Engineering, Recreation, Education, Sociology, Anthropology, History, Political Science, English or related courses of study · Experience in data analysis in combination withresearch and writing skills _Hours per week_: 37.5 First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
