Job Description:

The Digital Agriculture Innovations Team at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a Test Engineer III position which will be responsible for developing, implementing, and communicating outcomes of test programs focused on agricultural machinery technology. The ISU Digital Agriculture Innovation Team (www.isudigitalag.org) consists of professional staff and graduate students who work closely with agricultural industry partners to develop innovative technology solutions. The team has a strong innovation record with over 30 patents and licensed technologies.

Daily responsibilities of this position may include:

  • Responsible for complete input and management decision making for engineering field test land use testing that utilizes 2,000 acres annually. Responsible for defining and continuously evolving field infrastructure management to accomplish engineering test outcomes in coordination with project leaders. Ensure field testing space is highly utilized and efficiently organized. Responsible for developing long term infrastructure plans for diverse engineering field test protocols.

  • Responsible for the comprehensive job quality of engineering field test research to minimize bias in program results, achieve high outcome quality of field research, meet cooperator expectations, and ensure appropriate and complete documentation of all processes. Requires expert level understanding of engineering verification, agronomy, soils, and machinery systems.

  • Responsible for implementation of engineering field tests and agronomic field plans associated with full production system testing of software and agronomic systems. Ensure and verify timeliness and job quality of all aspects. Reduce financial risk through implementation of management plans and pre-season coordination. Responsible for validating data plans for all field-based projects to ensure appropriate test and metadata is available for each program team.

  • Conduct risk analysis to define safety priorities and manage outsourcing or internal development of safety curriculum. Provide direction and oversight to staff who support execution and compliance management of safety program. Responsible for defining risk criteria and developing an insurance strategy to appropriately balance risk portfolio and insurance cost.

    This work will be completed in a highly collaborative team environment.

    This is a three-year term position, with expectation for renewal based on availability of funding.
