Summary Statement

From art to drama, dance classes to fitness programs, nature tours or special events, toddlers to adults, Boise Parks and Recreation has a n affordable class , community program, or activity for everyone .

Youth Camp Leader:

  • Instructs and facilitates youth in various indoor/outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, orienteering, fishing, biking, canoeing/rafting, dance, arts and crafts, environmental education, teamwork/leadership activities, etc.

  • The majority of activity takes place outdoors in municipal parks in warm weather conditions.

  • This position is open to interested persons aged 16 and older.

  • This position is designated as At-Will.

Essential Functions

Instructs and supervises youths ages 4-17 in recreational/educational activities in and around Boise. Works with youth camp supervisor and administrative staff on program development and implementation. Responsible for the well-being of participants while taking part in scheduled activities. Identifies concerns or issues involving camps or participants and brings to the attention of supervisor. (40%)

Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time. Total Percentage = 40%

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

Certification or demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in the specific camp discipline/activity.

Ability to deal with individuals in a friendly and tactful manner; work varied hours including evenings and weekends; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

Two years' experience working with youths from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Certified in First Aid and CPR.

Physical Efforts

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment

The work environment will include outdoor weather conditions. Work includes protected exposure to bodily fluids.

This position works: varying hours depending on camp times

19-Hour Temporary

All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.

4-Month Temporary

All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.

8-Month Seasonal

In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.

9-Month Temporary

In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
