The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for Field Inspection Supervisors in the Plant Industries division located in the Treasure Valley This position does not have benefits. This position is approximately 40-hours a week and expected to begin around May 15th and will end mid- to late October, depending on need. The field office is located in Boise; often, the successful candidates will report to work at the Nampa meeting point.

Example of Duties

Field Inspection Supervisors will provide training and supervision of Team Leads and Field Inspectors. Supervisors will communicate to the Program Specialist any personnel issues that arise and any potential disease findings during inspection. Supervisors will be responsible for starting and ending crews, delivering collected samples to the laboratory, contacting field representatives and growers on pesticide application status prior to clearing crews for entry into fields, entry of completed inspections into the MAPS program and also provide weekly updates of inspections performed and inspections remaining for each crop. Field Supervisors, Inspectors and Team Leads are responsible for examining crop fields for signs and symptoms of plant pathogens and pests. The use of policy and systematic procedures is of the utmost importance. Collecting, documenting and properly storing samples; following proper sanitation protocol; and the ability to read maps are all essential skills. The ability to keep accurate records is required for such information as inspection locations, mileage, samples, and time spent conducting an inspection. The work day is spent in a variety of locations and requires travel between fields.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful applicant must be able to fulfill the following duties: Ability to Supervise and train Field Inspectors and Team Leads Read road maps Hike or walk for an extended period of time over long distances on uneven, rough or off-road terrain with or without a reasonable accommodation Work in various types of weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain, etc.) Possibility of working early mornings, evenings, weekends, or long hours May have to use your own reliable transportation to go between job sites Rubber boots are required and may be reimbursed by the agency at the end of the season Must be able to communicate to farmers and field representatives Must be 16 years or older to apply.

Desirable Qualifications: This qualification is not required; however, if you have the related background it may increase your score. Plant pathology or field inspection experience.
