ITD has a Temporary/Part-time Research Analyst opening in our Central Laboratories located in Boise. The successful incumbent for this position will test materials used by the Department in the construction or maintenance of the state highway system. The incumbent will perform testing and quality control analysis according to the accrediting and standardization bodies including the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) using highly technical instruments.

This is a non-benefitted temporary state position, limited to 5 months. The weekly hours will range between 30 and 40 hours depending on work load.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Performs laboratory testing of construction materials for quality acceptance;

  • Performs a variety of construction testing analyses using the most current testing procedures for asphalt, asphalt pavement, cement, concrete, steel, aggregate and soil, chemistry tests for paint and glass beads;

  • Confirms asphalt pavement test-strip qualities;

  • Receives samples from districts and contractors, maintaining chain of custody and inventory requirements;

  • Prepares test reports, reviewing data entry for accuracy and compliance with specification standards;

  • Responds to requests for information on previous and in-progress analyses;

  • Maintains a safe and clean laboratory environment;

  • Ensures that the Central Laboratory maintains its licensure as an AASHTO/CCRL certified laboratory;

  • Performs regular maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment;

  • Reviews test reports;

  • Performs other duties as necessary.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is a requirement of this position

    Knowledge of:

  • Research methods

  • Principles of statistics

    Experience:

  • Writing analytical (research) reports or materials

    Desired Qualifications:

  • Using statistical software or spreadsheet software to perform statistical analysis

  • Possession OR ability to obtain WAQTC licensure

  • Previous experience in a laboratory environment, technical college courses (e.g. chemistry, mathematics etc)
