Responsibilities Participates in preparing and monitoring plans to improve or expand natural resources, and to alleviate or eliminate detrimental management impacts created by other resource uses upon the landscape. Participates in the coordination of studies, mitigation, or monitoring with independent contractors. Routinely utilizes Geographic Information Systems and Database Management Systems (i.e., Access, Excel) in fulfillment of duties. Assists in providing on-the-job training and user assistance to seasonal or other employees to accomplish natural resources monitoring and project completion. Assists in preparing routine natural resources reports, to document compliance and/or noncompliance with multiple use actions and work with senior resource specialists and/or supervisor to prepare appropriate documentation. Collects, enters, and maintains natural resources monitoring data according to BLM and program standards. Ensures data quality and integrity by adherence to quality control standards and procedures. For GS-09: In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: professional work in a variety of natural resource management disciplines including botany, ecology, rangeland and riparian management, fisheries and wildlife management, and resource planning. The work involves conserving, developing, and managing public rangelands and natural resources. -OR- Education: You must have 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. - OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. For GS-11: In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: participated in the planning and execution of ecological or biological studies with a limited number of variables; performed established, standardized tests and analyses on a broad range of biological samples; conducted studies using established fact-finding and evaluation procedures; conducting long-term monitoring of biological or ecosystem components; working with organizations, state and local government agencies, volunteers, and/or local communities to implement conservation and recreation programs; assisted in the preparation of professionally acceptable planning and/or compliance documents; or other related work. -OR- Education: You must have successfully completed at least three years of progressively higher-level graduate education, leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline directly related to the work of this position.- OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate-level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. Physical Demands: The work requires physical exertion such as walking over rough or mountainous terrain, off-highway vehicle riding, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, or similar activities. Work Environment: Work is performed in an office and field environment. Field work hazards include risk of injury from falls, strains, striking against brush and overhanging branches, bites and stings. Work includes frequent exposure to inclement weather such as rain, cold and heat. Education This position has a positive education requirement which requires that you have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- a combination of education and experience---courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
