Job Title: Tool and Die Maker

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Tool and Die Maker with metal stamping tooling experience, along with proficiency in assembling, tryout, and debugging of progressive and stage type punch press tooling. This role requires the ability to study specifications, compute dimensions, and determine assembly methods to fabricate parts accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to visualize product and determine materials required for fabricating parts.

  • Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly methods and sequence of operations.

  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining.

  • Set up and operate machines, ensuring machined parts conform to specifications.

  • Lift machined parts and position and secure them on surface plates or worktables.

  • Smooth flat and contoured surfaces using power grinders, and fit and assemble parts into assemblies and mechanisms.

  • Verify dimensions, clearances, and alignment of members and parts in dies.

  • Heat treat tools or parts as necessary.

  • Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, recommending design modifications when needed.

  • Develop specifications for specialty tools and draw or sketch designs of products.

  • Dowel and bolt parts together, working to tolerances as close as thousandths.

  • Dismantle dies and repair or replace parts.

  • Grind, file, and sand parts to fit for assembly and to smooth and finish cavities.

  • Assemble dies or molds.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Two-year certificate from college or technical school; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Proficiency in mathematical concepts such as plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry.

  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Problem-solving skills and ability to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment

The work environment includes a large shop with tool making, quality, and production departments. The facility is equipped with numerous machines such as press brakes, punch presses, laser/turrets, and CNC machines. It is a loud but well-organized sheet metal environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
