Job Information

The Engineering Technician will support the development of new products by developing and evaluating solutions for new and existing challenges using the latest engineering tools and equipment. The technician will strive to keep Bobcat products at the top of industry performance and durability.

Role & Responsibility

General Duty:

• Operate Engineering support equipment.

• Perform maintenance and repairs on facilities and equipment to maintain successful day to day operation.

• Assist with part coordination to aid in successful completion of projects.

• Utilize software to locate & transact parts from production, evaluate workload and flow parts through processes, communicate project progress, and track machine history.

• Order supplies to support day to day operation of specific functional area.

• Ship parts as required to support project flow.

• Keep work area clean, orderly and follow 5S schedule.

• Perform duties in a safe, efficient manner in compliance with safety rules and regulations.

• Provide feedback to design and/or manufacturing teams on opportunities to improve design or process.

• Interpret prints and assembly drawings to ensure parts and/or machines meet desired specifications.

• Assist in the instruction and training of others - Mentors Co-ops, Interns, or another technician.

Test Specific Duties:

• Actively engages in development and setup of test fixtures, machines, instrumentation, and data acquisition equipment required for conducting component or product tests.

• Perform specialized functions in connection with test laboratory work such as welding, machining, making, or modifying hydraulics components, electrical wiring, and electronics setup and programming.

• Accurately documents evaluation setup and results.

• Expanded ability to operate a wide variety of laboratory machines and instruments: dynamometers, fatigue test equipment, etc.

• Expertly operate most of the major bobcat products with a highly developed understanding of Customer Usage Profiles and applicable duty cycles.

• Understands tests to measure performance or durability of specific components, systems, or products.

• Mentor others in developing skills and processes.

• Develops new processes to improve overall efficiency.

• Conduct testing and product evaluations with minimal supervision.

Electrical Specific Duties:

• Manage existing calibration processes through coordination and execution of in-house and outsourced calibration.

• Maintain calibration documentation and calibration process documents.

• Equipment maintenance and repair - Repair onsite instrumentation and data acquisition equipment such as connectors, adaptors, junction boxes, and transducers.

• Maintain stock of on-site electrical components.

• Support Test Engineers with instrumentation and acquisition setup and trouble shooting.

• R&D - equipment development and research investigation in new sensor and equipment technologies.

• Support of PLC programming on test equipment.

• Vehicle to data acquisition CAN communication technical support.

• Support and complete electrical component testing in the environmental lab.

• Complete tests by subjecting components to vibration, temperature, humidity, and salt fog.

• Mentor others in developing skills and processes.

• Develops new processes to improve overall efficiency.

• Ability to conduct testing with minimal supervision.

• Manage test equipment purchase process-Quoting, ordering, purchase orders, P-card transactions.

Job Requirement

• Experience required: 2-7 years

• Education required: High school diploma

• Travel: Up to 15%

• Good written and verbal communication.

• Strong applied mechanical and trouble shooting skills.

• A willingness and ability to mentor less experienced staff members.

• The ability to identify and continuously improve work process problems and deficits.

• Executes identified decisions without hesitation and tenaciously drive them to completion.

• Experience with Lean Six Sigma.

• Expert operator of major Bobcat products.
