How you will contribute

The Chocolate Digital Champion will draw upon the experience of data analysis, predictive analytics, data modelling, and statistical methods to guide category teams in developing data capture and data modelling strategies, and support creating capability to maximise the value of data integration.

This role will require you to use software tools to support in building, testing, and implementing digital solutions, or alternatively, to select and manage delivery through an external partner. You will also work to ensure that models or simulations are validated against experimental or real-life data. The Chocolate Digital Champion will write best practice documentation from learning discovered, and support in developing simplified digital tools for others to use based on business knowledge, guidelines, models, simulations, or a combination thereof.

Because this is a rapidly evolving field, you will research and keep abreast of developments in relevant digital, modelling and simulation techniques.

What you need to know about this position:

This role is part of digital team within the global Chocolate Technology Platforms and is responsible for driving Data & Digital Culture within Chocolate R&D.

The purpose of the role is to champion and promote exceptional data & modelling standards for the chocolate category in the context of the Simulation and Modelling Capability.

The technical scope of work for the Chocolate Digital Champion is end-to-end work processes. This incorporates areas from ingredients to manufacturing, distribution, end-user functionality.

More about this role

Main Accountabilities:

The Chocolate Digital Champion will be responsible for:

  • Deliver on the Chocolate characterisation programme underpinning chocolate simulation models including Pilot plant work to support this.

  • Define E2E decisions space for chocolate manufacturing and identify opportunity to develop model for data-based decision making.

  • Promote the use of data structuring, data integration and data modelling for the end-to-end chocolate development process.

  • Support in building demos and prototypes of models that offer high impact and benefits to chocolate product development decision making and digital user experience.

  • Communicating with product developers as well as external partners to understand business needs and provide recommendations for digital solutions.

  • Review model validation programmes with model owners and ensure high quality standards and governance.

  • Leading and training the future data and digital champions in the chocolate category on their data governance responsibilities.

  • Coordinating a consistent and continuous communication around the data modelling capability, benefits, and value.

  • Supporting initiatives aimed at educating and upskilling members of the chocolate product development community to enable them to fully exploit data analysis, modelling and simulation capability.

What extra ingredients you will bring:

Essential:

  • General knowledge of food manufacturing technologies and ingredients.

  • Experience in Food science or engineering ideally in fast-moving consumer goods industry.

  • Applying fundamental technical understanding to interpret and analyse data to reach clear conclusions.

  • Strong technical and analytical abilities, a knack for driving impact and growth.

  • Hands on experience with Data Analytics methods.

  • Appropriate experience in R&D and (ideally) Data Science/Analytics.

  • A strong understanding of statistical analysis.

  • Experience programming in a language (JavaScript, Python, R and/or Matlab or similar).

  • Degree level qualification in Science, Design, Mechanical Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or Food Science, subject.

Desirable:

  • Experience in Confectionery is a strong advantage

  • Previous experience in Product Development within Food Industry

  • Cross Industry experience desirable.
