NHS Management, LLC Systems Administrator in Birmingham, Alabama

Job Description

NHS Management, a leader in the long term healthcare industry, has openings for two Systems Administrators. The Systems Administrator is responsible for providing general, administrative support for IS infrastructure systems as designated in the Systems Environment section below.

The Systems Administrator should be experienced and skilled enough with one (1) of these systems to be considered an expert and must have strong understanding of at least two (2) of these systems.

The primary role of the system administrator is to provide troubleshooting of system problems when escalated from the help desk. They will also work closely with the Senior Administrator (Senior Engineer) in the monitoring of system performance and with system implementations and deployments.

The Systems Administrator is highly involved in the creation, maintenance, monitoring and adherence to NHS technical standards.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Computer Science, Systems Administration, Networking, Information Technology or related field is preferred; 2-3 years demonstrated experience working in a health care environment supporting similar systems is required without Associate Degree.

    Requires at least one of the following certifications:

    • Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT)
  • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist ( MCTS)

  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)

  • VMWare Certified Professional (VCP)

  • 1-2 Years IT operation with Expert Level Skill in support of at least one of the systems to be supported

  • Demonstrates a thorough and complete understanding of the system architecture

  • Understanding of underlying Database schema

  • Able to recommend “best practices” in the setup, administration and use of the system

  • Able to instruct end users and IS Staff on any and all aspects of the system

  • Able to setup and use proactive monitoring and management of the system

  • Exhibits an “ownership” mentality concern the system. They can be the “go-to” person for any issues and any projects. They are an advocate for the system’s use within the organization

  • 2-3 Years IT operation with Journeyman Level of skill in support of at least two of the systems to be supported

  • Trained or certified with a good level of understanding concerning the system architecture

  • General understanding of the database schema

  • Understands how to setup the system and how to do high level system administration

  • Able to assist end users and IS staff with critical aspects of the system

  • Able to use monitoring tools within the systems

  • Exhibits a strong desire to learn all aspects of the system. Pursues opportunities to learn both on the job and through formal instruction on line or in the classroom. Demonstrates a desire to continuously improve their knowledge and expertise.

    Essential Job Functions

  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.

  • Ability to independently manage a Server 2008 Active Directory infrastructure.

  • Manage a Server 2008 RDS Farm.

  • Basic understanding of Server and Desktop virtualization.

  • Basic understanding of LAN switching

  • Ability to troubleshoot layer 2 network issues.

  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.

  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.

  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.

  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.

  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.

  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary

  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.

  • Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.

  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.

  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.

  • Upgrade and configure system software that supports NHS infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs.

  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.

  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.

  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.

  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.

    Systems Environment

    NHS provides IS services to skilled nursing facilities in 4 different states. The infrastructure is centralized at our Birmingham Data Center facility (BDC).

    Each facility is connected to the BDC via T1, Multiple T1s, or switched Ethernet. NHS is a heavy user of virtualization technologies including Microsoft Terminals Service, VMWare and VMWare View.
