Whether in a direct-care or support role, your contribution will make a difference in the life of a Texan. The Administrative Assistant III serves as a Workers Compensation Case Manager. Manages the return to work program, manages the FMLA program, coordinates the extended sick leave and sick leave pool requests, and assists the Risk Manager/Safety Officer in administering programs and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Performs complex administrative and technical risk management work in a state agency. Works under general supervision, with latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Essential Job FunctionsAttends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.1. Processes Workers\' Compensation claims.2. Provides effective liaison with medical providers, SORM representatives, managers/supervisors, and employees. 3. Manages open Workers\' Compensation claims on current employees to reduce expenditures.4. Serves as the custodian of confidential employee medical records and insures all rules regarding privacy and retention is adhered to.5. Schedules and coordinates Accident Review Board meetings. 6. Coordinates and facilitates the return to work program for employees whose physicians have indicated restricted job duties for a temporary disability and monitors progress of employeeand#146;s restriction from work.7. Processes and tracks completed FMLA requests. 8. Processes and tracks completed requests for extended sick leave and sick leave pool. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.Registrations, Licensure Requirements or CertificationsNone required Knowledge Skills Abilities1. Ability to manage concurrent and complex tasks and functions2. Ability to maintain organized tracking systems for multiple activities 3. Ability to create and use spreadsheet databases4. Ability to communicate accurately and effectively both orally and in writing5. Knowledge of commonly used medical terms is helpful6. Ability to rapidly learn and use pertinent HHSC HR policies and forms related to Workers\' Compensation, Modified Duty status, FMLA and use Sick Leave 7. Ability to interface effectively with various external healthcare professionals, State Office of Risk Management staff, and hospital employees and supervisors. Initial Screening Criteria1.
