Welcome to The Herrick House, part of Beth Israel Lahey Health Continuing Care. Our teams of nurses, aides, food service, and environmental service employees work to create an environment that supports the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs of our residents along with their families.

Responsible for cleaning residents’ apartments and residence common areas including vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, polishing, mopping, disinfecting, etc. Responsible for collecting and washing soiled laundry, linens and garments. Presses or irons as needed. Folds, sorts and distributes clean laundry. Also will perform routine maintenance and repair of residence, maintaining physical appearance of the grounds and building as well as ensuring that the building is physically sound and safe. Works with outside contractors as needed.

Education/Experience:

The ability to maintain a clean, neat and safe environment is required. Knowledge of cleaning practices and substances, laundering techniques and the ability to develop and follow preventive maintenance schedules and safety standards is required. The ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing is required. A high school diploma or GED is preferred.

Essential Job Functions:

The employee must be able to perform these essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation by The Herrick House without posing a direct threat to himself, herself, or others.

Housekeeping Responsibilities - Common Areas:

1. Performs daily assignments as scheduled by the Director of Facilities Management.

2. Cleans floors including vacuuming, sweeping, damp and/or wet mopping, disinfecting and carpet spot cleaning.

3. Cleans or maintains, washes, polishes and sanitizes bathrooms and fixtures.

4. Cleans and polishes furniture, fixtures, ledges, heating and cooling unit, mirrors, walls, etc. including administrative offices.

5. Cleans windows as necessary.

6. Discards waste/trash into proper containers and re-lines trash receptacles on a daily basis and discards into residence dumpster.

7. Cleans kitchen areas including cabinets, countertop, sink, refrigerator, microwave, etc.

Special Projects/Miscellaneous:

1. Performs special projects as assigned.

2. Performs various maintenance projects as assigned (i.e., painting).

3. Shampoos carpets/upholstery

4. Strips and waxes floors Buffs assigned flooring on a weekly basis.

5. Performs routine maintenance and repair as assigned.

6. Maintains, cleans and properly stores equipment.

7. Properly labels chemicals at all times.

8. Performs grounds/landscaping duties as assigned.

9. Responds to staff/resident requests in a timely manner.

10. Maintains infection control standards of practice.

11. Fills in for Environmental Services Aide I as assigned.

12. Performs similar and other related duties as required
