St. Luke's University Health Network Interventional Radiology Tech Aide, Bethlehem Campus, (Full Time Days) in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

The IR Technical Aide will be responsible for assisting technologists during procedures, patient transport, inventory of supplies as necessary, and room turnover. The aide will assist with paperwork, supply entry and charge input. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. This position also requires the use and understanding of EPIC. Medical Terminology is required. Knowledge of IR equipment and supplies. The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Excels in effective and positive communications. Uses skills to bolster the organization/ department image.

  2. Accurately completes EPIC training for invasive procedures.

a. Collects and verifies all pertinent patient/procedure information

b. Completed supply and charge entry.

  1. Accurately adheres to downtime procedures to assure appropriate information is available. Resulting in excellent continuity of care for patients.

    1. Assists the technologists, nursing staff and Radiologists in the preparing the patient for the radiology exam.

    2. Demonstrates competency in the knowledge of PACS UV WFM appropriate for their job responsibilities.

  2. Trains in and understands sterile technique and sharps technique.

  3. Verify correct patient is selected from worklist, ensures accuracy of Medical Record information prior to being sent to PACS.

  4. Maintain competence in the use of the Patient Transport System.

  5. Responsible for the success of the department to achieve Press Ganey goal of 90%. Every patient should receive patient education and your personalized business card. Apology cards should be sent or given to all patients when we do not meet their expectations. You will be required to submit a list of these patients to your manager at evaluation time.

  6. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/Entity as well as the proper release of information.

  7. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.

    1. Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
  8. Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.

  9. Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.

  10. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.

  11. Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.

    OTHER FUNCTIONS:

    1. Assists in gathering and recording data for Radiology Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement Program.
  12. Attends department meetings/in-services.

  13. Inventory and restock supplies as requested.

  14. Assists in lifting and transporting patients.

  15. Informs the staff when patient problems arise.

  16. Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to stand or walk for up to 8 hours per day in 60 minute increments. Sitting for up to 1 hour per day in 15 minute increments. Must be able to walk on level surfaces, stairs, carpeted surfaces, ramps for up to 30 minutes consecutively. Must have the ability to lift/move objects up to 40 pounds, push/pull patients weighing up to 300 pounds. Must have the ability to occasionally stoop/bend, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level. Must have the ability to hear as it relates to normal conversation and the ability to hear call bells. Must be capable of seeing as it relates to general vision, depth perception and peripheral vision. Manual dexterity in order to type on a keyboard for up to 30 minutes at a time. Frequent use of hands/fingers for data entry.

EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: General computer skills and medical terminology necessary. Minimum 1-year hospital experience preferred.

WORK SCHEDULE: Day shift with middle shift, night shift weekends and holidays as required based on the needs of the department. On Call for emergencies

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

CPR certification required.
