Purpose of the Position Remotely operate up to 6 air separation unit production plants simultaneously via computer interface from a central control room.  The ROC center operates 24 x 7 x 365 so this is a rotating shift position. The responsibilities of the Remote Operator during shift operations include everything from steady state plant operation and optimization up to and including full plant restarts, shutdowns, and transient responses. Directly influences $55MM annually in cost for the locations assigned through power management, production management, equipment reliability and efficiency. This position is entry level and the Remote Operator I can be promoted to Remote Operator II upon appropriate plant workstation qualification. The Remote Operator position is often a feeder position for other technical careers in the Messer Group. Why Messer? Principle Responsibilities Primary responsibilities of the Remote Operator I Include: - Maintain safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation - Respond to and troubleshoot process upsets and plant problems - Plant shutdowns and startups - Alarm management - Power management and emergency response - Execution of plant production changes - Monitor Key Performance Indicators and investigate / escalate any identified deficiencies - Working in a collaborative manner, issue plant operational instructions to local site personnel according to established procedures and response guidelines - Provide ad-hoc support including alarm response, process manipulation, troubleshooting and investigation for non-ROC plants on a reactionary basis Other responsibilities of the Remote Operator I Include: - Communicate plant status and performance to the business - Maintain individual plant logs (eLOG) - Downtime Reporting - Performance Indicator Reviews - Maintain the integrity of the Messer Operations Network through strict adherence to defined network security practices and requirements. - Quality control responsibilities for medical grade products Required Skills - Basic computer proficiency - Excellent oral communication skills - Strong team player - Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously - Analytical thinking ability to make quick and accurate decisions based on plant operational data and information - Willingness to work rotating shift - Ability to maintain very alert to issues that arise with the operation and able to react in a high stress environment Basic Qualifications High School diploma or GED Candidates must meet one of the following requirements: Minimum of 2 years plant experience in a process plant related operations role (examples include: chemicals, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, power, etc.) Military experience (examples: Navy Nukes, Navy Fire Controlman, Air Force Fuels) Recent college graduates with an engineering or physical science degree About Messer: Messer's safety culture, commitment to providing dependable supply and innovative gas technology solutions help customers unlock opportunities to be safer, more sustainable, more productive and more efficient, so their business thrives.
