Kelly Services Scientist in Bethesda, Maryland

Through our partnership with the National Institutes of Health, Kelly Government Solutions offers administrative, IT, engineering, scientific, and healthcare professionals the opportunity to work with the leading medical research center in the world. We are seeking an individual to work as a Scientist at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES . The contractor shall:

•Work with staff on the planning and management of experimental protocols involving rodent and human neuronal cell culture, exploring biochemical pathways, and recombinant protein production and purification.

•Maintain and utilize human neural stem cells (NSC) and NSC-derived neuronal cultures for neurotoxicity experiments.

•Transfect human NSC and NSC-derived neuronal cultures with various reporter genes (fluorescent proteins, luciferase, doxycycline-dependent targets) for bioassays.

•Utilize multiwall microelectrode array electrophysiology system in order to determine the functionality of new human neuronal cultures, both before and following new neuro-therapeutic treatment.

•Perform laboratory techniques such as biochemical assays, protein analysis, biochemistry, histology and neuroimmunology and neuronal cell biology.

•Perform immunohistochemistry, immunoblotting (especially quantitative), microscopy (fluorescent, phase and confocal).

•Work with staff on planning experiments and evaluating and interpreting test results utilizing detailed knowledge of research laboratory procedures and practices.

•Select, develop, perform and evaluate research methods.

•Oversee laboratory purchasing and day-to-day laboratory management; monitor inventory levels and proper storage of materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures.

•Keep current knowledge of vendors and suppliers of materials specific to laboratory requirements; monitor equipment performance and maintenance schedules.

•Utilize various laboratory software applications to assemble, manipulate and format data and/or test results.

•Maintain and update laboratory notebooks and databases; collect, analyze and interpret data; prepare summaries and reports based on results.

•Work with staff on planning and creating manuscripts.

•Provide training to other staff.

REQUIREMENTS . The contractor must have:

•Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline.

•Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a laboratory environment.

•Experience in basic laboratory procedures.

•Experience with biochemical assays, protein analysis, microscopy and immunohistochemistry.

•Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

•Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
