Matrix Providers is hiring a Psychometrist | Psychiatric Technician to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families Walter Reed National Military Center in Bethesda, MD.

  • Role: Neuropsychological Assessment Division, Department of Psychology, and Behavioral Health Directorate at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in support of the Neuropsychology Service.

  • Status: Full time, 40 hours per week

    Minimum Qualifications for Role:

  • Certifications:

  • Current certification as a Specialist in Psychometry by the Board of Certified Psychometrists, OR

  • Current certification as a Psychiatric Technician by the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians, OR

  • Certification received from military training as a Psychiatric Technician.

  • Minimum Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 12 months full-time experience working as a Psychometrist administering neuropsychological tests under the supervision of a licensed neuropsychologist.

  • Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program, OR

  • Completion of equivalent education and experience that meets the requirements of the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians, OR

  • Completion of education and experience as a behavioral science specialist/technician in the United States military, including an Armed Forces course in psychiatric technician training, OR

  • Completion of a civilian course from an accredited school in the care of behavioral health patients.

    Specific Tasks / Responsibilities:

  • Psychometric Testing:

  • Function as a Psychometrist, administering and scoring a wide range of test batteries, including psychological, neuropsychological, personality, cognitive, intelligence, effort, and academic tests.

  • Score test protocols accurately and promptly, utilizing objective criteria and technical judgment.

  • Enter all test data into a database and prepare a summary of results.

  • Clinical Judgment and Patient Care:

  • Demonstrate sound clinical judgment in providing patient care.

  • Manage physically, emotionally, and/or cognitively impaired patients for extended periods.

  • Provide support and encouragement to uncooperative, inattentive, or antagonistic patients to complete the testing protocol.

  • Behavioral Patterns and Diagnostic Impressions:

  • Identify significant behavioral patterns and convey diagnostic impressions based on test behavior and results with professionals.

  • Consult with the attending Clinical Psychologist or Chief if a patient is unable to continue with testing.

  • Make preliminary interpretations of data, review protocols for initial risk factor elevations, and inform the attending Clinical Psychologist or Chief about potential danger to self/others.

  • Clinical Formulation and Documentation:

  • Contribute to the clinical formulation of the assessment/treatment agenda based on behavioral observation, test data, and assessment of motivation, cooperation, strengths, and weaknesses.

  • Utilize therapeutic assessment and interview skills to elicit accurate and concise accounts of the patient-s condition.

  • Document patient care using proper terminology in accordance with clinic policy.

  • Assist in the development of a comprehensive diagnostic report by writing the background section following a thorough chart review.

  • Equipment and Supplies Management:

  • Assist in the acquisition and management of testing equipment and supplies.

  • Maintain security and inventory of psychological testing materials, including notebook computers, assessment manuals, response booklets, and electronic/physical patient data.

  • Assist in ordering supplies and inventory of neuropsychology instruments.

  • Information Gathering and Reporting:

  • Obtain sufficient information from patients to describe their current mental status and transcribe that information into Word or AHLTA documents.

  • Present obtained information to the attending Clinical Psychologist, privileged providers, and trainees.

  • Timely Completion of Work:

  • Complete and submit work in a timely manner in accordance with clinic SOPs.

  • Treatment and Rehabilitation:

  • Conduct or assist in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients, including basic assessment procedures, standardized psychological testing, clinical interviewing, mental status examinations, substance abuse evaluations, and psychological and nursing assessments.

  • Identify mental health and nursing diagnoses and provide patient education.

  • Observe, monitor, record, and report the patient-s progress.

  • Conduct or assist in group and individual counseling, therapeutic community, and other related milieu activities.

  • Institute precautionary measures to prevent patient injury or suicide.

  • Assist patients with nutritional, hygiene, and comfort measures.

  • Obtain and record vital signs.

  • Coordination and Referrals:

  • Coordinate with other agencies regarding care, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, and administrative functions.

  • Contact military and community agencies to obtain collateral information.

  • Explain and interpret mental health services to patients or others.

  • Assist in or arrange patient referrals to public, private, and military community agencies.

  • Records and Reports Maintenance:

  • Prepare and maintain records and reports pertaining to specialty services.

  • Assist with the care of individuals experiencing acute and post-traumatic stress reactions.

  • Prepare and maintain treatment records.
