Actalent Distribution Designer in Benzonia, Michigan

Job Title: Distribution Designer * Training provided!!!

Job Description

The individual will be responsible for independently developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems for electric utility customers. This involves system reliability and improvement work, which includes replacing old equipment with new to improve system consistency. The individual will review work provided by the client and assess the requirements of the scopes, potentially involving field work depending on available support.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems.

  • Review work provided by the client and assess the requirements of the scopes.

  • Conduct field work, including taking photos and measurements of specific sites or assigned circuits.

  • Create designs using Open Utilities, a MicroStation-based CAD system.

  • Perform energy analysis to ensure materials meet required site usage.

  • Create a Bill of Materials (BOM) to be entered into SAP/Material Tracking Software.

  • Assist with permits needed for utility lines to cross roads, easements, private property, or for tree removal.

  • Complete and submit electrical construction packages for approval.

  • Use Poleforman or similar software for structural analysis of wood poles.

  • Adhere to National Electric Safety Codes (NESC) when making designs or selecting materials.

  • Work with a designated Quality Control approver on necessary revisions.

  • Communicate frequently via email, phone, and Teams with the client.

Essential Skills

  • Associate degree in computer aided design (or relevant degree including credits earned in any computer aided design field)

  • 6+ months of designing/drafting experience using CAD (experience can also come from educational classes)

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of National Electric Safety Codes (NESC).

  • Experience with distribution construction and design standards.

  • Relevant experience with electric utility companies or consulting firms supporting utility work.

  • Experience with training new employees and writing process standards.

  • Ability to work with Poleforman or similar software for structural analysis.

  • Experience with SAP/Material Tracking Software.

  • Knowledge of GIS and permitting processes.

Work Environment

Candidates should live within 1 hour of Hastings, MI. This position will be 95% in an office or working at home and about 5% of the time going out into the field in the Hastings, MI surrounding area to collect needed field data and measurements to perform the design enhancements.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr.
