Walmart (USA) Software Engineer III in Bentonville, Arkansas

Position Summary...

What you'll do...

On the Item and Inventory team, we ensure our customers get their orders when and where they want them, in a frictionless, predictable manner. What's more, we create reusable SaaS products and services that manage our catalog and power end-to-end inventory management, including replenishment, fulfillment, and transportation. With end-to-end inventory management, from replenishment and fulfillment to transportation, we give our drivers and partners the tools they need to get the right items to customers on time and in the right packaging.

As a Software Engineer III in Item Catalog Team, you will be responsible for driving item catalog projects and production incidents with RCA/COE finding tactical solutions to unblock business impacts, collaborating with cross-functional teams and providing us with the insights necessary to think beyond the status quo. You'll oversee small project teams consisting of other engineers who will look to you as a trusted advisor, a subject matter expert who provides guidance and the right tools to get the job done. You will also be responsible in reactively resolving system and item related issues reported by business and customers, within the area of support. You will be expected to contribute innovative solutions through automations and tools tactically to solve system problems.

Requirement And Scoping Analysis:

Requires knowledge of:

  • To understand the Business/Stakeholder/Technical requirements and assist in analyzing the existing solutions to address the needs (in case of agile methodology, for the iteration). Prepare requirement traceability matrix and maintain traceability between business requirements, functional requirements, design and test cases. Contribute to the creation of user stories for component/module/simple requirements (for example: based on scalability etc.).

  • Risk analysis methodologies; Cost Impact Analysis; Business objectives; Classification of requirements; Domain Knowledge; User stories concepts; Functional / Non-Functional Requirements; Scoping and Estimation

  • Able to prepare technical low-level requirements document in Confluence in aligning with the business requirements.

Coding:

Requires knowledge of:

  • Coding standards and guidelines; Coding languages (E.g. JavaScript, Python), frameworks(E.g. ActiveX,.Net, Cocoa, Android application framework etc.), tools(E.g. Monday.com, Linx, Embold etc.) and Platforms (E.g. Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud);Quality, Safety and Security (PCI etc.) standards; Emerging tools and technologies; Telemetry; CI / CD; Code Management Tools; SDLC; Secure SDL frameworks and tools

  • To create/configure minimalistic code for entire component/application and ensure the components are meeting business/technical requirements, non-functional requirements, low-maintainability, high-availability and high-scalability needs. Assist in the selection of appropriate languages (E.g., JavaScript, Python, C# etc.), development standards and tools (E.g., Monday.com, Linx, Embold etc.) for software coding/configuration. Take initiative to learn the fundamentals of different coding languages and frameworks that would be useful for future scope of work. Build scripts for automation of repetitive and routine tasks in CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery), Testing or any other process (as applicable). Implement telemetry features as required independently. Ensure security policy requirements are properly applied to components/application during code development/configuration.

  • Expertise in creating Java, Python scripts for operational success.

  • Hands on experience debugging production issues, managing escalations, SLAs and striving to bring down MTTD, MTTR on production issues.

  • Ability to work with application developers to find root cause analysis, tactical and permanent solutions to critical business and customer impacting issues.

  • Ability to take methodical approach to troubleshooting complex problems.

  • Experience in trouble shooting production incidents on eCommerce retailer site and identify root cause, working with all business and Engineering stakeholders to bring it to closure with action items and define timeline for tactical and permanent fixes

  • Hands-on experience in both public (Azure/GCP) and private cloud experience, planning and driving efficiencies

  • Ability to automate and create SOPs for repetitive issues, building knowledge base articles.

Testing:

Requires knowledge of:

  • Test case preparation; Test Objectives; Test Strategy; Test types; Test tools (E.g. - Automation - Selenium, Agile - Jira); Test Environment; Root cause analysis; Code Coverage; Test Coverage.

  • To map the customer requirements in to test objectives. Identify and create test cases for the component/module. Execute test cases to test the code and detect errors and defects for the entire component. Execute different types of testing using appropriate testing tools based on the testing needs.

Defect Management and Troubleshooting:

Requires knowledge of:

  • Defect life-cycle process, defect tracking tools and methodologies; Defect reporting; Regression testing; Root cause analysis; Root cause corrective action.

  • To track and analyze defects for the component/ module and carry out regression testing to fix defects in all instances of code changes. Analyze defects from past projects/solutions to avoid recurrence of similar defects. Troubleshoot performance and availability bottlenecks for the application.

What you'll bring:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related and 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but no limited to C, C++, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of retail technology

  • Effective team player including communicating with customers, peers (business & technical), and suppliers, and understand Walmart businesses and collaborate with stakeholders towards cohesive, end-to-end experiences for Walmart customers.

  • Excellent problem resolution, judgment, and decision-making skills. Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Software engineering experience with Cloud technologies (i.e. Google, Azure services)

  • Understanding the Cloud Computing concepts and platforms.

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$180,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
