Aerotek Diesel Mechanic in Benicia, California

Job Title: Diesel Mechanic

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Auto Mechanic with 2-8 years of experience to respond to service calls daily, repairing a variety of trucks and construction vehicles including hoist distribution trucks, bucket trucks, utility-based trucks, backhoes, front loaders, track trucks, and excavators. You will be provided a company fuel card and a company truck to travel to and from sites, some of which may be located as far as Southern California, Pebble Beach, or Calistoga. This is a very physical job, requiring the ability to maneuver on and under trucks.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to service calls to repair various trucks and construction vehicles.

  • Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting on diesel engines.

  • Repair and maintain hydraulic systems and 12V or 24V systems.

  • Conduct preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on-site.

  • Work on booms, cranes, and heavy equipment such as skid-steer loaders and excavators.

  • Perform brake changes and other necessary repairs.

  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and safely.

  • Commute long distances to job sites within California.

Essential Skills

  • 2-8 years of experience as an auto/diesel mechanic.

  • Experience with boom trucks and aerial line equipment.

  • Proficiency in diagnostic testing, hydraulics, and diesel repair.

  • Experience with ERG (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve) systems.

  • Knowledge of 12V and 24V systems.

  • Transmission repair experience.

  • Ability to perform welding tasks.

  • Basic hand tools required; experienced mechanics should have their own tools.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (no DUI in the last 2 years, less than 3 points).

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Air brakes experience or a DMV Med Card preferred.

  • Class A DL with air brake endorsement is a plus.

  • Steel toe boots required.

  • Familiarity with high voltage systems and safety protocols.

  • Flexibility to work long hours and overtime as needed.

Work Environment

Work will be conducted at various construction sites throughout California, primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions including hot, cold, rainy, or windy environments. Mechanics must be prepared to respond to emergencies at any hour. Fleet trucks operate 24/7, and mechanics may need to perform repairs where the truck is located. High visibility vests and PPE are required on-site due to the proximity to high voltage power lines. Mechanics will work in pairs for safety and support. The dress code includes steel-toed boots, jeans, and a t-shirt to start, with fire-resistant clothing provided after the probationary period.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Benicia, California.
