GE Aerospace Staff Engineer – Preliminary Design Cost in Bengaluru, India

Job Description Summary

The Staff Engineer in the Preliminary Design Cost team is a pivotal role in shaping the future of flight and environmentally sustainable air travel. Operating within the Advanced Technologies department at GE Aerospace, you will be responsible for estimating the Product, Maintenance and Non-Recurring Engineering cost of the next generation aircraft engine at very early stage (pre-TG to TG3) of the engine program. The responsibility includes building cost models, validate the business case and drive Design for Cost while following GE Aerospace Design Practices and legacy experience. You will influence the company’s strategic focus areas, customer requirements, proposal evaluation criteria, and contribute to prioritizing technology investments.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

• Drive cost rigor and Design for Cost culture in engine design. Present different elements of engine cost (Manufacturing, Maintenance & NRE) in preliminary design stage of the engine program.

• Build Product (Manufacturing) Cost models and estimate the product cost for new engine architectures.

• Create value sell of the engine architecture/technology based on the life cycle cost and validate business case of the proposed engine.

• Work with multiple organizations like Systems, Project, other engine disciplines, H/W owners, Fleet Model, Supply Chain, Sourcing to create complete picture of the cost elements.

• Establish methodologies to estimate cost for new component/technology for next generation engines.

• Leverage digital tools to benchmark engine dimension, features, material, cost, and other data from legacy engines.

• Identify risk and opportunity with estimated cost, work with multi-disciplinary team to mitigate risk and mature opportunity.

• Lead maintenance & new development of COMPEAT$ with ADT and OU.

• Lead cost estimation tools/process roadmap.

• Drive efficiency, capability, and fidelity into cost processes. Write/amend Best Practices, Design Practices, ensure adherence to these standard practices in the team. Contribute to design boards activities.

• Create and protect the Intellectual Property rights of the Company.

• Communicate results, findings and observations in clear and concise documents (presentations, reports, memos, technical articles) to peers and leadership in design reviews.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.

• 10+ years of experience in an engineering position.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Prior experience leading global cross-functional teams

• Ability to guide and influence others

Desired Characteristics:

• Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.

• 12+ years of professional or research experience in an engineering domain.

• Experience estimating weight, product cost, maintenance cost, and design parameters early in engine development programs

• Exhibit effective multitasking skills, consistently delivering projects on time and with high-quality outcomes.

• Showcase a systems thinking approach to problem-solving.

• Demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

• Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business.
