GE Aerospace Research Engineer - Computational Fluid Dynamics & Multiphase Flows in Bengaluru, India

Job Description Summary

As a Research Engineer , you will collaboratively execute applied research in computational fluid dynamics for multiphase flows (including combustion) for GE Aerospace commercial engine programs and technology demonstration programs such as RISE (Revolutionary Innovation for Sustainable Engines). You will be a key member of a team of technologists and engineers at GE Aerospace Research collaborating with the GE Aerospace business teams to deliver on our commitment to sustainability, safety and quality for our customers while advancing aerospace and defense for future generations.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Apply your knowledge in computational fluid dynamics, computational combustion and multiphase flows to develop innovative solutions for aircraft engine technologies and programs.

  • Develop ideas and concepts, and mature technologies through various technology readiness levels (TRLs), to improve aero performance for aircraft engines.

  • Deliver on technical projects meeting schedules and budgets, implement plans with minimal guidance to meet technical requirements and document results.

  • Participate in a team on multi-generational research & technology programs to enable future design advancements, while independently executing tasks leveraging your technical skills.

  • Network and collaborate with both GE Aerospace business and research team members to identify opportunities for innovation, build plans and execute on technical projects

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering specializing in Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computational Combustion and Multiphase Flows with at least 2-5 years of experience in applied research or industrial applications

  • Fundamental knowledge in fluid dynamics, combustion and multiphase flows and relevant computational expertise - advanced modeling and simulation (LES, DNS), and drawing physical insights thereof

  • Demonstrated competence and experience in code development using Fortran90, C, C++, Python, MPI, MATLAB

  • Demonstrated experience in using in-commercial CFD codes (ANSYS CFX, FLUENT) and/or experience with in-house codes.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new, unfamiliar technology areas and to abstract system level concepts

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in computational multiphase fluid dynamics and combustion - URANS, SBES, LES, DNS; LES code development would be a plus

  • Experience in using large computer clusters to run large simulations

  • Programming skills in Python/MATLAB/FORTRAN/C/C++ Experience in performing design trade-off studies and design optimization

  • Experience with NPSS and Contrails modeling and simulation strategies
