Job Description

Principal BI Engineer (Power BI & Azure)- Possesses in-depth knowledge and experience to work autonomously and have responsibility for the design, development, and implementation of BI Applications on Azure Cloud. The role is proficient in the areas of consumption design, development, performance tuning and troubleshooting. Working in a global environment, Individual contributor role that requires strong hands-on approach capable of working across teams and time zones.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and implement Power BI reports and dashboards that are visually appealing, easy to use, and meet the needs of the organization. Develop and implement complex data models using Power BI's DAX language, data sources, and relationships. Maintain and troubleshoot Power BI solutions to ensure optimal performance and stability. Collaborate with IT and business teams to understand and prioritize business requirements, recommend solutions, and provide technical guidance and support. Develop and maintain Power BI documentation, including data dictionaries, user guides, and knowledge base articles. Create and implement data governance policies and processes to ensure data security, accuracy, and consistency. Develop and maintain Power BI data sources, including Power BI datasets and Power BI Reports, to ensure that data is up-to-date, accurate, and consistent. Implement data refresh and data integration processes to ensure that Power BI dashboards and reports are updated in real-time. Provide training and technical support to end-users on how to use Power BI dashboards and reports effectively. Stay current with new Power BI features, functionalities, and trends, and continuously learn and expand your knowledge in the field. Gather requirements, design, develop, implement, maintain, and manage dashboards, visualizations, and other BI solutions. Understands the relevant data needs and coordinates with the data team to deliver meta data models in support of reporting needs.

Job Requirements

Technical Skills:

Proficient in SQL, DAX, and Power BI development using Azure Cloud Data Services such as Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, SQL databases. Strong understanding of ETL, Lakehouse, data warehousing, data modeling, and business intelligence. Strong experience in building large and complex data models in PowerBI Experience with data visualization, report design, and data analysis. Experience in data warehouse design (e.g., dimensional modeling) and SQL databases and SQL statements. Hands-on experience in ADF using Linked Services/Datasets/Pipeline/ to Extract, Transform, and load data from different sources like Azure SQL, Blob storage, Databricks SQL or Azure SQL Data warehouse or Synapse. Good exposure in SSIS and SSAS with Tabular Modelling Good knowledge and exposure in working with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks or Azure Synapse and PySpark. In-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework. Experience in ad-hoc data analysis, solution design, reporting & dashboard development. Power BI certification is an added advantage. Experience in agile methodologies desired including Agile delivery and testing. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Education and Experience:

A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Masters preferred. 10+ years of overall experience working in BI, ETL, Datawarehouse or Lakehouse related technologies. Min. 5+ years of experience developing, implementing, and managing Power BI solutions. Min. 3+ Years of experience working with Azure Cloud Data Services: Azure ADLS, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse or Azure SQL
