General Motors Engineering Group Manager - Manufacturing Engineering in Bengaluru, India

Job Description

Purpose of the position

  • Manage a group of Teams / People Leaders / Technical Leads in one or more functions who are determining and specifying how the product is to be manufactured by delivering manufacturing processes (designs/simulations/studies) and/or equipment/tooling

  • Ensure the effective utilization of resources necessary to execute the work

  • Ensure high engagement for the team and be responsible for Workplace of Choice scores for group

Major Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety standards – Keep our people safe and deliver safe solutions

  • Develop & implement hiring, training and outsource strategy to meet variable workload requirements, timing, and cost

  • Drive plans to train teams on future technologies ahead of time

  • Develop next level Subject Matter Experts and people leaders in all teams

  • Drive employee engagement - Initiate measures to make GM Workplace of Choice

  • Drive HR initiatives and ensure 100% compliance to policy and procedures

  • Establish business objectives for overall group

  • Provide leadership and technical direction to teams

  • Establish and oversee required processes to ensure successful delivery of work by the teams - meeting the Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost metric

  • Explore, support, and drive additional workshare that benefits overall GM

  • Drive continuous improvements & sustain through Standardized work

  • Ensure compliance for Global Manufacturing Systems requirements

  • Promote & Drive Innovation – Advanced Technology Works

  • Work cross functionally with other groups locally, regionally, and globally to meet Global & GM TCI ME goals

  • Ensure technical assistance for teams as required

  • Manage the budget for group ((Headcount, Travel, IT, Bundled Services)

Knowledge

  • Technical and functional expertise in Manufacturing Engineering

  • Vehicle anatomy and Vehicle Development Process (VDP)

  • Typical Corporate Policies and Procedures

  • Program deliverables from Manufacturing Engineering

  • Ability to implement Global Manufacturing Systems principles for ME type work.

Skills/Abilities

  • Analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and stake holders to solve problems and resolve issues

  • Ability to manage multiple and complex projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and high accountability for results

  • Competent in providing performance & behavioral feedback & managing conflicts

  • Expert in project management and ability to coach people & facilitate learnings

  • Desire and ability to manage/coach performance of direct reports / teams

  • Understanding of other functions and Business Acumen

  • Ability to have comfort around higher management

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent Negotiation skills across functions.

  • Be able to manage a work force remotely - Team may have travel profile

Additional Job Description

Education:

Bachelor/ master’s degree in any engineering background.

Required Experiences

  • People Leader (including performance management and compensation planning responsibility)

  • Manufacturing Engineering experience (more than 10 years)

  • Working with other regions to complete assignments / projects

  • Project Management

Preferred Experiences

  • Managing groups / cross functional teams

  • ME assignments in different functions

  • Leading / trained on GMS
