The Trust, Privacy and Responsible AI organization keeps Linkedin a safe and trusted platform, utilizing and advancing cutting edge AI technology while ensuring responsible data and AI practices company-wide. Within this organization, as a Director of Engineering, you will have two main responsibilities:

  • AI Trust Foundations Lead, building and scaling sophisticated AI foundations and capabilities such as Generative AI. Your leadership will ensure these technologies are also widely adopted throughout the organization and by other AI teams, reinforcing LinkedIn's position at the forefront of AI innovation.

  • India AI Site Lead, steering the AI engineering strategy and fostering a culture of excellence, nurturing internal and external collaborations, strategizing talent acquisition and retention, and acting as the face of LinkedIn's AI endeavors in both internal leadership circles and external engagements. Your vision will shape the future of AI at LinkedIn India.

This role will be based in Bangalore

Responsibilities

  • You will be directly leading the BLR Trust AI Foundations team of 20+ AI engineers and supporting 50+ AI engineers across the AI teams in India

  • The team owns multiple charters including embedding based retrieval, generative AI, AI productivity, core foundational models, etc.

  • You will partner with cross functional leads to define near-term and long-term roadmaps for various charters and initiatives that can lead to significant impact on our products

  • You are expected to grow a strong bench of AI leaders to help LinkedIn further expand its AI footprint in India

  • You will work closely with LinkedIn India leadership to build up LinkedIn’s brand in India, with a particular focus on AI

  • You will be overseeing all algorithmic developments and end-to-end deployments of machine learning/optimization algorithms

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in machine learning, in particular natural language processing, computer vision, knowledge graph, generative AI, search, or similar areas

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or related engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong background in machine learning and data mining techniques. 5+ years managing teams of 50+ individuals and first-line managers.

  • Good understanding of large scale engineering systems and some or all of big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, Machine Learning, distributed key-value stores, streaming processes, workflow scheduler, recommender systems, statistical methods, and experimental design.

  • Ability to lead by example and inspire the team to perform at a very high level, and collaborate very well across different teams.

  • Highly motivated and has the ability to convert vague and ill-defined problems into well-defined problems, take initiative and encourage consensus building across the entire organization.

  • Enthusiasm for solving interesting problems for real customers.

  • Publications at prestigious conferences and patents are desirable.

  • A proven track record of delivering end-to-end solutions for high QPS systems that require working with massive amounts of data.

  • Strong leadership abilities in order to communicate and drive cross-functional efforts

  • Good relationship building and people skills.
