Primary Purpose

The Pinckney Gallery Coordinator is responsible for the management and maintenance of the Pinckney Gallery exhibition space. In collaboration with the Gallery Board, the Coordinator will organize and execute gallery exhibitions within the space, including all logistics involved in installing and advertising each exhibition. This position collaborates and coordinates with Visual Arts Faculty and COCC Administration. This is a skilled position.

Essenatial Duties and Responsibilities

  • Schedule and supervise part-time art gallery staff (work-study/volunteers.)

  • Prepare contracts and other paperwork necessary for gallery business.

  • Communicate and collaborate with exhibiting artists.

  • Coordinate opening and closing the gallery in accordance with scheduled gallery hours.

  • Maintain art gallery exhibition space (supplies/lighting/incidental minor repairs & cleaning, etc.)

  • Prepare art gallery for exhibitions, including installation and deinstallation of artwork.

  • Working with artist(s) and graphic design students to create show branding (posters/flyers/pamphlets/wall tags/etc.) as needed.

  • In collaboration with COCC Marketing & Public Relations, coordinate bulk mailings and electronic marketing to promote exhibitions (updating COCC website/posting on social media/etc.)

  • Coordinate artwork sales, including packaging and shipping, if necessary.

  • Event coordination such as obtaining food/drink for opening receptions and arranging for set-up and clean-up.

  • Meeting with and presenting a verbal report (State of the Gallery) to the Pinckney Gallery Board at least twice a year.

  • Outreach to community in Central Oregon.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.

  • Knowledge and experience in the Visual Arts.

  • Computer literacy (Email, Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (In-Design, Illustrator, Photoshop.)

  • Excellent customer service skills including in-person and telephone.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize and adhere to deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently under general supervision.

    Ergonomic Requirements

Incumbent must be physically able to lift and move art exhibitions of various sizes and weights, up to 50 pounds or more, and to use powered hand tools. Work is performed during regular working hours, along with some evenings and weekends. Requires the ability to write, use email, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED .

  • 1 year of college coursework in the Visual Arts or related discipline.

  • 1 year of supervisory/management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher education degree or certificate in the Visual Arts or related discipline.

  • Extensive background in the Visual Arts.

  • Previous work experience in an art gallery.

  • Previous work experience in a community college/higher education environment.
