Primary Purpose

General maintenance and monitoring of the ceramics lab during open lab hours and beyond. Training is available.

Essenatial Duties and Responsibilities

Safety & Security: Student worker is responsible for the safety and security of the equipment in the classroom during open lab and firing hours. Also responsible for turning off all equipment at the end of the shift and verifying the room is locked and secure. If there are any issues or problems with this, the student must contact either the instructor or administrative assistant to assist in securing the area safely.

  • Studio & Lab duties:

  • Monitor open lab, reminding students to clean up and what time the lab closes.

  • Fill containers with clay slip and water for student use throughout week.

  • Consolidate and clean tools.

  • Wipe down worktables and sinks and assist in final end of term shop clean up.

  • Unload kilns.

  • Test clay and glazes

  • May be asked to assist in other art labs, gallery events and/or student art sales if needed.

    Ergonomic Requirements

A flexible work schedule may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities. There may be opportunities for evening or weekend hours. Regular FAC office hours are between 8 am – 5 pm Monday through Friday.

Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. May need to use a ladder. May perform kiln duties outdoors. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Awarded and accepted Federal Work-Study for 2023-24

  • Meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress for financial aid.
