Opportunity:

As a Dental Assistant Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in leading and supporting our dental assistant team to provide top-notch patient care. The role of the Dental Assistant Supervisor also supports performance achievement, conducting training sessions, and reviewing the clinical practices of dental assistants. In addition, the Dental Assistant Supervisor is tasked with ensuring adequate schedule coverage, offering day-to-day support, and addressing staff and operational issues.

Serving as a subject matter expert, the Dental Assistant Supervisor is knowledgeable in Dental Assistant clinical practice, workflows, and role responsibilities, offering guidance as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care

  • Provide direct patient care within the dental assistant scope of practice and current competencies.

  • Act as Dental Assistant operational lead and support for programs that impact the Dental Assistant and role.

  • Act as a clinical expert and monitor clinical services including infection control, safety regulations and guidelines.

  • Ensure proper coverage of dental care team pools and the triage of urgent/acute dental appointments.

  • Consult, refer, and collaborate with other disciplines involved in the delivery of patient care.

  • People Management

  • Manage performance of the team, conduct monthly meet-ups and provide real-time and consistent coaching and training with all direct reports.

  • Ensure accountability of team, including but not limited to adherence with policies, procedures, guidelines, workflows, etc., addressing attendance, performance, and behavior concerns including corrective action if necessary.

  • Consult with Human Resources to support employee relations, performance achievement, training, employee engagement, etc.

  • Hold consistent and timely team meetings to communicate organization, site, and/or department information, changes, initiatives, etc.

  • Provide oversight and support for recruitment/hiring of openings supervised by direct reports.

  • Effectively monitor onboarding of new hires, ensure on-going training and development for all staff.

  • Manage time off requests and approve timecards for direct reports or as delegated, and monitor to ensure staff takes required breaks and lunches

  • Clinic Operations

  • In collaboration with the site leadership team, support and/or lead process improvement, operational efficiency, quality initiatives, clinical meetings, and huddles.

  • Maintain the clinical schedule including coordination of daily staffing schedule to maintain proper coverage for dental services.

  • Ensure adequate medical supplies are available to support patient care including, but not limited to coordinating orders, verifying receipt, stocking, and monitoring expiration dates and disposal of medical supplies.

  • Serve as liaison and communicate with Clinic Operations Supervisor to ensure efficient operations between front and back office in clinic.

  • Coordinate all OSHA activities, including policy development, infection control and record keeping.

  • Develop OSHA/infection control procedures, trainings, including initial and annual staff trainings along with other representatives from dental operations management.

  • Comply with and supervise all staff in compliance of “Universal Precautions” for infection control.

  • Work with the Dental Director and/or Dental Operations Manager to ensure proper handling of incidents and/or accidental through incident reports.

Skills & Knowledge:

Your ability to connect with patients from diverse backgrounds is crucial. Strong interpersonal and communications skills are a must. Must possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Computer and typing skills using Microsoft Windows operation system. EHR experience, EPIC experience a plus.

Bonus points for Spanish-speaking abilities!

Experience, Education, Licenses & Certifications:

  • 3 years’ experience as a Dental Assistant

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • CDA and/or EFDA

  • Preferred but not required : People management experience and Community Health experience

  • 3 years: Three years of experience as a Dental Assistant required. One year of people management and/or leadership experience preferred. Community health center experience preferred.
