Primary Purpose

Central Oregon Community College is in the early stages of creating a suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention plan. This position’s responsibilities will consist of researching current practices and compiling the information into an institution specific plan.

Essenatial Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meet with COCC employees/staff to gather information on current processes, resources and community partnerships.

  • Research best practices that are being implemented at colleges and universities nationwide.

  • Draft a template/guide to be used for creating the comprehensive plan.

  • Coordinate weekly meetings to facilitate project.

  • As needed, will meet with Asst Professor II Public Health and/or COCC staff to compile information. Work with key partners to complete environmental scan and assessment.

  • Maintain a high energy level and enthusiasm when representing Central Oregon Community College’s public health program.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Shared Point.

  • Ability to research information and compile it into one document.

  • Ability to meet with Asst Professor II Public Health and COCC staff on a regular basis (Zoom or in person) throughout the summer for direction and input.

  • Ability to support and contribute to a diverse population of people and lifestyles

    Ergonomic Requirements

Regular office hours are established between 8 am – 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.

Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a student in good standing with the college (2.0 GPA or above).

  • Enrollment in a COCC public health class and/or successfully completed public health classes.
