ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Building Safety Division of the Community Development Department interprets and enforces the state-mandated building codes through a process of education and a clear and fair application of the specialty codes. Responsibilities include the review of all submitted residential and commercial plans, and the inspection of all building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire suppression, and manufactured dwellings.

ABOUT THE JOB:
This position is for an A level Electrical Inspector,oran A level Plumbing Inspectorora Commercial Fire & Life Safety Plans Examiner.
The Commercial FLS Plans Examiner will examine and approve building construction plans and specifications for proposed construction projects, and make determinations for compliance to applicable codes. This position works within a scope of thorough knowledge in structural, mechanical, plumbing and/or electrical aspects, combined with a working knowledge of residential and commercial construction.
A-Level Electrical and A-Level Plumbing Inspectors are field inspection positions. This is the senior-level in the Building Safety Inspector job series. Incumbents inspect complex commercial and industrial projects, as well as residential projects and have a thorough knowledge of both construction inspection and plan review protocols, policies and procedures; applies considerable knowledge of the techniques and procedures required to independently manage building safety inspection projects, and identify and resolve compliance issues.
Key Responsibilities:
Reviews a wide variety of residential, commercial, and industrial construction plans and documents to ensure compliance with applicable laws, codes, ordinances, and accepted engineering practices.
Prepares and maintains a variety of inspection records and technical documentation; reviews Department records and identifies technical and clerical errors in plans and technical documents.
Interprets and applies principles, practices, procedures, regulations, and ordinances governing the Deschutes County CDD; conducts research on technical issues and project proposals to assist citizens, developers, and CDD personnel; provides information and recommendations within scope of authority.

Compensation
Building Safety Inspector II:
$5,851.99 to $7,842.22 per month for a 172.67 hour work month.
Building Safety Inspector III:
$6,451.83 to $8,646.07 per month for a 172.67 hour work month.
Salary placement is dependent upon education, experience, and certification. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union-represented position is available immediately.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (GED);
AND two (2) years of post-high school technical training;
OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job.
Building Safety Inspector II:
Requires possession of one or more Oregon A-level specialty certifications.
Building Safety Inspector III:
Requires possession of multiple Inspector certifications from State of Oregon, Building Codes Division, including A-level Oregon Electrical and 1 & 2 family mechanical certifications;orA-level Oregon Plumbing and two or more 1 & 2 family certifications in building, mechanical, or electrical; orA-level Oregon Plans Examiner certification with Fire & Life Safety endorsement.
Necessary Special Requirements
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.
Must be willing and able to drive throughout Deschutes County in sometimes adverse weather conditions such as rough dirt roads.
Depending on the role, the balance of time is spent in the field in all types of weather requiring the ability to drive a variety of vehicles, walk on uneven surfaces, climb into trenches and on ladders, crawl into confined spaces, etc., exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 15 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
