About the team

We are currently seeking a Software Development Engineer (Level 5) to join our team and contribute to the development of Amazon DataZone, an innovative AWS data management service. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about creating solutions that streamline and improve the process of cataloging, discovering, sharing, and governing data across various platforms including AWS, on-premises environments, and third-party sources.

Basic qualifications

  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 3 years in software development, with a focus on developing web services, APIs, or full-stack applications.

  • System Design Expertise: At least 2 year of experience in contributing to the architecture and design of both new and existing systems, including aspects of architecture, design pattern, scalability, and reliability.

  • Systems Engineering: Demonstrated expertise in creating scalable and fault-tolerant systems with a focus on operational efficiency.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in multiple modern programming languages, including but not limited to Java, Python, C++, and JavaScript.

  • Decision Making: proven ability in handling ambiguous situations and making informed, data-driven decisions to craft optimal customer experiences.

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

  • Foundational Knowledge: Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, encompassing design, data structure, algorithm design, problem-solving, and complexity analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced System Design: Demonstrated experience in advanced system design and architecture.

  • Coding Standards: Excellent coding practices including comprehensive design documentation, unit testing, peer code reviews, and a preference for agile development methodologies.

  • Cloud Technology Proficiency: Experience with cloud services (Amazon Web Services, Azure, or GCP) is desirable. Proficiency in modern cloud-native technologies, including but not limited to AWS Services like API Gateway, Lambda, ECS, S3, DynamoDB, IAM, KMS, CloudWatch, Glue, LakeFormation, and QuickSight.

  • Machine Learning Expertise: Hands-on experience with machine learning applications, including Large Language Models (LLMs), Reinforcement learning, or Deep learning a plus. Familiarity with MLOps practices, demonstrating proficiency in integrating machine learning models into production environment, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and reliability.

  • Analytical and Design Skills: Sharp analytical abilities with proven design skills and excellent communication capabilities.

  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to influence or lead a team of experienced engineers towards a common technical goal. Skilled in resolving conflicts and guiding the team to optimal solutions.

  • Innovative Drive: Strong passion for developing new products in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • User Experience Focus: Passion for building intuitive and innovative user experiences.

  • Ownership and Initiative: A track record as a proactive owner, capable of taking concepts through to concrete realization.

  • Continuous Learning: A strong desire for continuous learning and improvement.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
