We are seeking a Principal Product Designer with demonstrated product design experience to help us with the next wave of AI-powered local-based mobile solutions and enhance user experiences in spatial and maps experiences. This role will support design and research for the Maps UX, Geospatial Apps and Cartography design. Were looking for someone with both design skills and team lead skills; visual and interaction design skills, be comfortable with ambiguity involved in inventing v1 experiences.
You will direct the team to concept, prototype, and evangelize new customer experiences powered with AI, as well as help evolve our design system, working across teams to bring design coherence to our framework and create beautiful, inclusive, and accessible experiences that customers love.
Responsibilities
Inspire and motivate teams to think innovatively, encouraging them to explore new creative avenues when designing and prototyping for generative AI experiences, rapid prototyping, and pioneering first-to-market solutions.
Foster an environment that embraces experimentation and pushes the boundaries of what is possible.
Lead experience strategy, interaction design, creative direction, and craftsmanship for generative AI products and product features
Design and prototype AI experiences that connect with existing products and services
Lead a multidisciplinary team, creating clarity, generating energy, and delivering results
Drive cross-team collaborations among your team and other designers, researchers, program managers, product planners, and engineers from early product stages to implementation
Understand the behaviors, motivations, and needs of our customers to develop relevant and impactful experiences to drive growth and engagement
Contribute to strategic product planning via experience roadmaps
Demonstrated commitment to meticulous attention to detail and a deep understanding of typography, recognizing the significance of these aspects in delivering exceptional user experiences.
Propose creative solutions to complex user experience journeys, drawing on your ability to map end-to-end experiences
Identify new opportunities and generate innovative ideas to improve our processes, products, and culture, influencing design direction and research methodologies
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 8+ years' experience working in product or service design
OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design
OR equivalent experience (e.g., experience using design thinking to solve problems).
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience designing and prototyping for AI and generative experiences
Demonstrated sense of interaction design attuned to the fundamentals of user experience, including accessibility and inclusive design
Strong visual design skills
Communication and presentation skills, with the ability to energize teams and advocate for your ideas
Experience designing in Figma
Product Design IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
