Chewy Associate Director, EHS and Asset Protection Programs in Bellevue, Washington

Our Opportunity:

Chewy is seeking an Associate Director, EHS and Asset Protection Programs to support Chewy Fulfillment, Vet Care, and Corporate teams. Leading multiple teams including the Global Security Operations Center (GSOC), Business Continuity, Disaster Response, and Corporate EHS. This role will lead development and deployment of a Global Command Center, enterprise Business Continuity, and Disaster Response programs for Chewy’s enterprise! The successful candidate will be leading multiple high-level programs supporting safety and security across the Chewy footprint. This includes leading a core team passionate about emergency management, business continuity, disaster response, program development, and handling third-party contracts. Additionally, the role will coordinate all aspects of the GSOC Command Center operations and Incident Management processes coordinating with site operations, internal partners, and senior leadership integrating technology to scale for right fit. This role requires a knowledgeable people leader with a health and safety background in general industry safety, wellness, ergonomic, and emergency disaster management programs. As well as ability to work with autonomy, develop positive relationships with third-parties to proactively lead contracts, and partner with local officials/regulatory agencies.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and command the Chewy Global Command Center program that supports Chewy Fulfillment Core, Chewy Vet Care, and Corporate teams.

  • Lead multiple Sr. PMs owning intricate enterprise wide programs including GSOC operations, Business Continuity, Disaster Response, Corporate EHS, and several other programs/initiatives.

  • Develop programs, apply technology, and guide leadership on incident, emergency, and disaster management operational response.

  • Build training for corporate and field teams around incident management, crisis response, disaster response/safe re-entry protocols, and more.

  • Lead all aspects of the team building corporate EHS programs scaling to support Chewy’s growth.

  • Partner with Procurement and Risk to set up network vendors, for Chewy’s enterprise, for disaster response/recovery.

  • Provide standard methodologies to reduce hazards and mitigate impact from natural and human-made disasters. Including risk identification, planning, and mitigation techniques for both Chewy Fulfillment Core & Corporate teams.

  • Lead a core team who handles communication during major incidents across Chewy leadership and internal partner crafting mechanisms for notification, opening virtual Emergency Operations Centers (EOC), collection of after-action report, and follow up on actions identified to continuously improve safety and security programs.

  • Partner with Procurement to performance coach several network contracts for vendors.

  • Develop and deliver on business objectives, critical metrics, and team goals to drive safety and security performance across Chewy Fulfillment Core & Corporate teams.

  • Develop data driven initiatives supporting Chewy’s short and long-term strategies.

  • Report into the AD of Corporate EHS and Asset Protection, coordinating with HR, Finance, and Operations to implement Chewy’s strategies passionate about company vision, people, process, and technology.

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (EHS, Emergency Management, Loss Prevention, or Business Management/Operations) or equivalent work experience.

  • MBA or Master’s degree in Emergency Management or related field required.

  • 8 + years of experience in EHS, Emergency Management, or Loss Prevention/Security required.

  • Experience in emergency disaster operations or large-scale incident management including natural disasters, industrial incidents, and structure fires.

  • FEMA National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) certifications (ICS-100, IS-700, etc.) and experience with incident command structure required.

  • Certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED, certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Fire Fighter or related emergency response experience required.

  • Experience using current and future technology integrating EHS and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for improved incident management response.

  • Experience leading dispersed EHS teams across multiple levels of roles in an advanced, fast paced, industrial organization. Including environmental, health/employee care, safety, food safety, and proactive wellness responsibilities.

  • Experience leading multiple small teams across different EHS fields, developing workforce strategies, and healthcare management required. 5-10 years of experience developing a diverse and dispersed team of health and safety professionals required.

  • Strong communication attributes, both oral and written, being able to communicate across internal partners and with executive leadership.

  • Highly interactive colleague who can build strong relationships with internal and external partners including third-party vendors.

  • Experience interacting and driving partnership with emergency agencies, regulatory authorities, and government officials at multiple levels required.

  • Capable of delivering high quality work and data driven initiatives on time with the ability to prioritize multiple different projects or programs simultaneously.

  • Ability to be flexible, work through ambiguity, succeed in a fast-paced environment while having the foresight to build mechanisms and develop strategies. Willing to learn new skills and implement new technologies across Chewy.

  • Experience with Gensuite, Avetta, Smartsheet, Microsoft Office, Google platforms, and other workspace software.

  • Must be willing to travel up to 30%.

Compensation & Benefits:

Our salary range for a Associate Director, EHS and Asset Protection Programs position is $149,000.00 - $245,000.00. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Non-exempt hourly team members accrue paid time off (PTO) while salaried-exempt team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Non-exempt hourly team members in Fulfillment Centers and Customer Service are also eligible for additional unplanned unpaid time off (UTO). Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
