JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The School of Music at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Trumpet position starting August 15, 2024. The ideal candidate is an accomplished artist- teacher with a collaborative mindset and a strong commitment to creative, inclusive teaching practices. An earned doctorate is preferred; commensurate experience will be considered .

Please note that the Penn State School of Music is also seeking an Assistant Professor of Piano and an Assistant Professor of Voice. For all three positions, we seek inspiring new colleagues who will , together , help us view musical performance, teaching, and learning in diverse ways. We seek an applicant who will maintain an active regional, national, and international performance profile, and develop a creative and scholarly agenda appropriate to an R-1 university tenure-track position. The successful candidate will have ideas for cultivating a vibrant, diverse musical population in our School, and has an innovative plan for recruiting undergraduates and graduate students from international, national, state, and local circles. The ability to nurture a supportive studio community is essential. The successful candidate will have a keen sense of responsibility to community outreach and will be willing to make a substantial investment in local and state musical activities. The position requires university service duties appropriate to a tenure-track assistant professor. This position requires the candidate to do advanced graduate teaching and solid, thoughtful undergraduate pedagogy. Instructional duties may include (but are not limited to) studio teaching for majors and non-majors, chamber music coaching, repertoire class, brass pedagogy, trumpet methods, jazz teaching, and/ or other courses in the candidate’s unique areas of expertise.
