Microsoft Corporation Principal Product Manager (Multimedia search) in Beijing, China

Are you a PM that loves working with loads of data to understand Search Engine User Behaviour? Are you excited by technical concepts in information retrieval in search and recommendations? Do you have a good taste for quality? And lastly, does the idea of indexing, organizing, and building state of the art intelligence on billions of videos from the world wide web, to power all of Bing’s Multimedia Search sound like fun? We’re the Bing Multimedia search team and we’re looking for a PM that can lead the relevance and platform investments for our team. You will work closely with machine learning scientists, and algorithm engineers, and other partners to plan and execute the roadmap for search and ranking quality. Your goal would be to ensure the users of Bing discover the highest quality, most engaging video results for their searches, and help improve retention and user satisfaction on the platform. 

Responsibilities

Develop long term and short-term plans and roadmaps for quality improvements to video search ranking algorithms and work closely with machine learning engineers to deliver on them. 

Help data science and engineering teams counterparts by being the custodian of overall product quality and make sure that the quality metrics like DCG, NDCG, captures the gaps in user experience. 

Create an accurate map of the top problems for your area, in ranking, quality, and data quality (index) and use it to inform the next stage of investments. Share these top problems with ranking team and build excitement for tackling hard problems. 

Use A/b testing, explicit customer feedback and implicit customer feedback (analysis of query logs) to understand gaps in quality, unmet customer needs, and key problems to be addressed. 

Collaborate with other partner teams to align on strategies for growth and quality improvements and improve overall search experience. 

Design strategies to improve engagement and retention of Bing video users by making improvements and changes to ranking quality. 

Drive initiatives to improve the indexing, categorization, and understanding of video content, leveraging metadata, captions, thumbnails, and video embeddings. 

Staying on top of industry trends for video consumption, analyzing competitors and identifying areas for differentiation and improvement. 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field /MBA. 

5+ year experience with search, ranking, relevance, recommendations systems, experience with video content platforms, content moderation etc. 

Proven, consistent track record of using data analysis and metrics to deliver improvements to product quality. 

Proficiency in analyzing large datasets, using data science tools, and conducting A/B testing to make informed decisions 

Good taste for quality, passion for data analysis, and good understanding of metrics and measurements, as well as find loopholes in current metrics. 

Strong understanding of machine learning techniques, model quality evaluation concepts (precision, recall, RoC, AUC etc). 

Ability to work on multi-year roadmaps with different partner teams on different product roadmaps to bring alignment across disparate orgs and deliver big wins. 

Leadership: Strong organizational and leadership skills to drive product vision and execution.
