Department Summary:

MITRE's Nuclear Weapons and C2 Platforms Department is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with acquisition experience and project leadership experience to provide expertise and support to the most critical challenges our sponsors and their missions face. We provide technical guidance through rigorous modeling, simulation, and analytical methods to enhance program decision making and risk management. Our main sponsors possess the policy, warfighting, organizational, and program responsibilities within the Air Force Nuclear Enterprise.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership within MITRE and within our sponsor organizations to ensure delivery of safe, reliable, and effective weapon system communications and networking systems, while considering a broad range of factors to include operational requirements, cybersecurity, cryptography, mobile force integration, and human systems integration.

  • Cultivate strong, trusted working relationships with our sponsors by understanding their needs and helping them solve their toughest problems.

  • Lead and contribute to technical products that enable data-driven decisions and result in impactful mission outcomes.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) related field and 5+ years of relevant experience

  • Exceptional oral, written and communications skills to effectively present technical material, and advise SAOC MITRE Team and potentially other stakeholders.

  • Experience working in collaborative team environments.

  • Broad technical knowledge to include software, hardware, networks, comms, cloud computing, cyber security, and IT engineering disciplines.

  • Ability to self-organize with minimal oversight.

  • Experience working complex system of systems architectures and addressing integration challenges.

  • Experience interacting with multiple levels of Government and Military leadership.

  • General understanding/familiarity with NC3 Systems and Architectures

  • Experience working on aircraft acquisition programs.

  • Understanding of DoD test and evaluation processes to include Developmental and Operational Testing

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fundamental understanding of design principles and concepts

  • Familiarity with modeling tools; can read and understand modeling architectures and design patterns.

  • Experience conducting research and analysis to drive technical recommendations.

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DoD Top-Secret clearance.
