Launched in 2022, the W V READY (Rural Engagement Ambassadors for Development and Youth) is a new collaborative AmeriCorps program between us ( Stewards Individual Placements ), Appalachian Conservation Corps (ACC) , Volunteer WV , and local community organizations . The initiative aims to :
support WV’s transition to eco-tourism,
outdoor recreation,
and increasing outdoor accessibility.
E ach WV READY member’s project is tailored to the host site ’s needs . In addition to their host site, members lean on a cohort-style model for support, shared experiences, and professional development. Stewards Individual Placements
Conservation Legacy is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster conservation service in support of communities and ecosystems.
Stewards Individual Placement Program is a program of Conservation Legacy.
Conservation Legacy operates and supports programs that provide service and work opportunities for a diverse group of individuals to complete important conservation and community projects for the public benefit. Founded in 1998 to continue the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s, Conservation Legacy programs include: Arizona Conservation Corps, Southwest Conservation Corps, Southeast Conservation Corps, Preserve America Youth Summit, Great Appalachian Valley Conservation Corps, Stewards Individual Placement Program and New Mexico Conservation Corps.
Position Details
Our organization is dedicated to fostering community involvement and promoting outdoor activities in the Raleigh, Wyoming, McDowell, and Mercer areas. We are seeking a passionate and motivated individual to join our team as a Community Engagement Coordinator. In this role, you will be tasked with three (3) major responsibilities:
1) coordinating volunteer events,
2) coordinating education events, and
3) coordinating outreach efforts aimed at increasing participation in outdoor activities. Coordinating these events will entail the following:
Project Responsibilities
Event Coordination
Identify and secure opportunities to table at various events in the Raleigh, Wyoming, McDowell, and Mercer areas.
Coordinate WV READY community eng agement at tabling events, including scheduling, materials preparation, and staffin g ( logistics )
Volunteer and Education Events:
Collaborate with local parks in Raleigh, Wyoming, McDowell, and Mercer to organize volunteer and education events.
-These events aim to raise awareness about outdoor activities, promote environmental conservation, and provide educational opportunities for community members .V olunteer Day with R aleigh C ounty P arks and R ecreation A ssociation (RCPRA) :
Work closely with the Raleigh County Parks and Recreation Authority (RCPRA) to organize a Volunteer Day aimed at improvin g and maintaining local parks and recreational areas.
Coordinate volunteer recruitment, project planning, and logistics for the event.
Active WV Events:
Participate in Active WV events and initiatives aimed at promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles across the state.
Collaborate with local organizations and stakeholders to support and promote Active WV events in the Raleigh, Wyoming, McDowell, and Mercer areas.
Data Collection and Reporting:
Collect data on event participation, volunteer involvement, and outreach efforts.
Prepare reports to track progress, measure impact, and inform future outreach strategies.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with team members, partner organizations, and community stakeholders to coordinate activities, share resources, and maximize impact.
Maintain regular communication to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives .

Required Skills
Minimum Requirements
Must be a US Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident
Able to commit to 20 weeks (about 4 and a half months) of service
Must be 18 years old or older
High School Diploma or GED (by start of service)
Must be able to pass federal background check
Willing to serve in West Virginia ( West Virginia resident preferred )
Qualifications and Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Customer service experience
Ability to lift at least 20 pounds at a time
Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking
Ability to function well in a high-paced environment
Ability to work with youth
Possession of valid driver’s license with a safer driving record (preferred)
